Oh, I'm aware.  However, sometimes it's the little moments of pleasure that's all we can cherish.  Making a friend laugh.  The thrill of a task accomplished and the nights rest that comes with it.  Holding someone's hand.  Slaughtering a few darkspawn while taking in a sunset.  Eating candy and drinking good liquor next to a crackling fire.

 

I have a feeling Sera is going to have some hidden quiet strength and depth once we can get to know her.  That's just my assumption though.  BioWare has very rarely done two-dimensional characters.  The ones that are considered 2D really depend upon the poster.

You get a handful, then take your shot.  Once the liquor goes down, then you pop the skittles into your mouth to kill the burn.   Rinse, repeat.

True, even if I'm not particularly fond of them, I can't remember the last time Bioware created a Companion character that I didn't feel emotionally attached to by the end of the game.

I think a few people are.  Varric seemed to be doing just fine until the Bartrand incident.  See, that's my other fear with Sera.  They'll give her a relatively peaceful past, only to have the events of the game/PC incur some tragedy.  You know, we have to kill her mother because she's an abomination.  Of course, that's after Sera's mother killed her sibling(s) and father too.  Then the house is going to have a Veil tear in it, some how and we have to burn down her childhood home.

 

That's just how the DA team rolls.  

 

I think Varric more-so just tries to roll with things and stay optimistic, I don't think he's really happy. But, that can just lead to interpretation

I really, really don't want her to have a painful past!! I'm so tired of it, it's the same thing over and over again. What are the chances that literally almost every companion we meet has a tragic life? Please, BioWare, please let Sera be that one bright light in Thedas that's always skittles and tequila and I can take body shots off of. Pretty please.

I see. That sounds.. tedious. I'm more of a peanuts and beer kind of guy. You take a mouthful of beer, and then repeat that at regular intervals. Occasionally, you eat a peanut.

It would be an interesting change of pace if Sera had well off (for elves anyway) loving parents and had no real tragedy in her life. Having someone normal...ish could be fun.

 

It is doubtful her parents would have been well-off, since she is a city-elf and a thief. Its more probable that she comes from one of the lower socio-economic rungs of Thedas.

 

That doesn't necessarily mean that she couldn't have had loving parents and a relatively happy childhood however, just that her parents were more likely to be porters or servants or scullions than rich merchants or artisans.

That does remind me, getting a bit more on topic.  While I don't mind having a super flirty character, I'm really hoping they don't make Sera into Isabela 2.0   Don't get me wrong, I really do like Isabela.  Her and Aveline are the only two rivals I never did, mainly because I like them both for who they are.  However, at times Isabela's near-constant sexual innuendos and remarks felt a bit forced at times.

 

 I love a good dirty joke (or several,) but I'm hoping Sera can be down-to-earth when the situation calls for it.  I really hope I won't be yelling, "Dude, not funny!" at her after a devastating attack on a defenseless village or something like that.

YES!! I agree 800000%, I don't want them to just make a previous companion in the shell of another and calling it brand new. Recycled personalities are a huge no-no and it takes away from the potential the original new char has.

Yeah, Isabela was fun but could be a little much. She did go to 11 after all. Judging from the concept art I wouldn't be surprised if Sera and Cass are Isabela and Aveline 2.0 at least relationship wise.
