Yay 2000!

Critical research failure strikes again! From the 'accent' thread:

I think the games could use more of the variety in British accents. And I mean true accents, not a cop out like Sera's american accent with two features vaguely from the Grim North tacked on.

Dohohohoho!

Isn't it a British accent?  What was the term.... Chav or Chive or something like that? Some kind of counter culture?  It is British right? and what the heck is the Grim North

Sera sounds British to me and Cass sounds French/ish. I suppose if one wanted to nitpick these things...I don't. It's hard for me as an American to spot the differences sometimes between regional British accents. I can spot Liverpool sometimes but that's from Beatle fandom. :P I am on much firmer ground when telling an individual from Baltimore from one from Boston.

@Uncle Well done, I shan't be Liam Neeson-ing you today.  :P

Sent Alexia a PM. I miss my mummy.  :crying:

University... is f*cking boring! There are 7 of us in. 7, out of 20. I might as well have just stayed home.

Back at work after being off since the 23rd. Miserable. I'd like to go home too and play more DA:I. :(

Yes. That's why the complaint is funny. Robyn Addison (Sera's VA) is from Derbyshire and used her natural accent.

The Grim North is the Northern part of England. I'm fuzzy on where the 'official' division is though. :D

I don't think Cas is supposed to be French, she's Nevarran not Orlesian. I'm not sure what it is supposed to be though.

I'd like to go home and play Far Cry 4. Right now, we are talking about Kony and concentration camps and slavery and money troubles and random stuff, none off it related to Graphic Design.

To be fair, I am watching Sherlock Holmes in the corner.

Britain has a vast variety of regional accents. Robyn Addison who voices Sera is from Derbyshire, which is in the Midlands (the middle of England, shock!). She has a mild Derbyshire accent and that's what she uses. It borders with Yorkshire and Lancashire, which is where people would start labelling accents as "Northern" so she shares some characteristics with  a "Northern" accent. I strongly dislike the word "chav" and there's no such thing as a chav accent, because they are spread across the UK. It's a word used to describe people who are usually poorly educated and financially poor, but it has negative connotations which are often unfair on those to whom it's applied. It's like "trailer trash" in the states, I think.

Cass's VA, Miranda Raison, is also British, and I've no idea where her accent is supposed to be from, other than Nevarra. It's certainly not French. It sounds something like "generic vaguely eastern European type 3".

Edit: Here's her real voice:

I just guessed French. :P It's vaguely Euro sounding and French sounded close enough to me. But I don't really know what they where aiming for.

To me it kind of seemed like Nevarra was supposed to be similar to Spain maybe?  and Rivain kind of Italian?

Now that I think about it a little more Eastern European does sound more likely although exactly where I wouldn't hazard a guess.

"Trailer trash" aka "white trash" is generally pretty unacceptable and I'd already figured "chav" was it's UK counterpart. You could probably toss "redneck" into that as well. It's good people are trying to get beyond these old hateful words and stereotypes.

I kind of thought I’d stay out of posting on the internet ever again, but since nobody I know is really playing the game I’m thinking GAA, okay I could try saying something in here since I’m been reading the thread for a couple of months anyway.

So hi!

I’m playing my fourth character now (second Sera romance) and I’m still finding places and hearing banter that’s new to me…

Yeah, I feel like it should be the accent of some fictional country Tintin visits.

Antiva is sort of Spain and Italy. Rivain is also sort of Spain, particularly with the Qunari occupation and cultural blending going on. I'm not sure what Nevarra draws influence from.

Quite possibly. I certainly wouldn't be surprised at all.

Oh and I forgot to post Tressa's final "Cabinet of Wonder Whose It Was" screenshot. D'awwww.

I think so. Which is fine of course. *Checks over shoulder for VAs* Though I'm curious as to what happens when they introduce anyone else from Nevarra.

I've said it before, but I had a massive crush on her when she was in Spooks. Short haired women who kick ass FTW.

The one I wrote a few months back. Somebody (Serza) wanted me to do an audio version. I have been brainstorming new ideas though. I might do other 'little toy' stories *snerk* but with different love interests.

So very evil, me...

Alexia is fine, but she doesn't want to come back here again, apparently she had some kind of misunderstanding here with someone (she didn't tell me who) and decided that she doesn't want to come back. I tried to convince her, because people here miss her and she has friends, but she did not listen. :(

Those of you who consider her a friend and have any means to reach her outside the BSN, be it email, or Origin chat, anything, please, try to speak to her and let her know that you care about her. She didn't believe me when I said that people here care about her, maybe she'll believe you ladies and gents.

At least she's not a-hole waiting to happen, like me.

It'll still happen. Eventually.

I shouldn't really be here, you know, people.

*shrug*

I'll get the Twister mat

Booze and Twister. That's gonna be... Well, I don't drink, so at least someone's gonna be dry to call the paramedic after.

Dohohohoho!

Jerks.

That reminds me of the people who complained about Leliana's 'fake' French accent in Origins. It happened with a movie actress who 'faked' an Australian accent too (she's Australian, naturally).

Some people.

Let me guess, I'd be faking the entirety of Czech, if I ever spoke that to anyone.
