Josephine: "Ugh..."
That should be Cassandra with *disgusted noise* ![]()

google is your friend
It is but I was trying to do it myself and avoid spoilers.
I eventually did use google.
Gah. Changed my mind and made a new world state for Abaeni. Now I have to reroll her. Which is okay since I decided I wanted to change her eye and hair colour.
Man that red hair on the slider is bloody scarlett!
Fear not, everyone agrees. Some people, like me, have a high tolerance for sandbox skyrim type games and while I love all the exploration in the game, the story could use more focus in DA 4.
I really loved the exploration, such as finding Valammar in the hinterlands. And the story missions were great and quite varied. But I feel like they could have made many areas smaller - such as the hinterlands, and made a few more story missions. I feel like the #1 time sink in this game is just traveling across the large areas. I wish the horses were as fast as they are in skyrim.
Yeah, I think I agree with you more or less 100% on this. There are a lot of really interesting areas (I just went through the elven temple ruin in the Emerald Graves yesterday - all that information about the Red Crossing! I wasn't expecting that. What an amazing thing to learn about). But I'd have preferred most of those areas and elements of discovery to have been tied to something more meaningful. And yes, just more main story beats in general would have probably helped a good deal, considering the sheer scale of the world and the hours it takes to get through everything if you want to see it all (and for people who love the lore I think it is worth seeing).
I understand what CaptivatingKS says about pacing and urgency - I think that can be quite subjective (as can all of it, really), and to get the most out of DAI I feel like I'd have to alter my expectations and my usual playstyle and try to put any idea of completionism to one side and work hard to create for myself a pathway through the game that achieves the pacing I want. In an ideal world, though, I wouldn't have to do that because the game would already have given me enough hooks to lead from one beat to the next, while giving me the freedom to explore but not feel lost in between.
I adored the above ground thaigs in the hissing wastes, but hated the hours of trying to find them.
Oh man, I just got to the Hissing Wastes. I think it's absolutely beautiful there, but I keep hearing it's huge and so many people hate it... idk what my opinion will be once I've spent several hours/days/weeks/months exploring ![]()
I don't get it either. I adore the Hissing Wastes. Now the Exalted Plains... that's a match made in HELL ![]()

The wastes have some great story, definitely bring Varric along. But the place is gigantic. To the point that they have to put in sandstorms to keep you from going in certain directions.
I hate missing out on dialogue, so don't use your horse unless necessary, but do find the camps asap and fast travel.

For me it's the Emerald Graves. Great lore and story, but even on my lowest brightness settings and turning down the colour, all the bloody greenery gives me a headache.

I have barely used Varric at all so far outside the early stuff before I had anyone else. I'm an archer, and I'm romancing Sera, so if I do have another archer with me it will be her. I've more recently been rockin' and rollin' with Cass, Bull and Dorian though - I love their discussions. I'll pull the old guy out of commission for a while though so he can give me his insight into the various dwarven things scattered around. Thanks for the tip!
I use my horse all the time. I don't have enough time to waste walking everywhere. Besides, I've already listened to all the banter online.

you have a point. And that lvl 20 rift plus the giant's hangout. ugh...

I luckily played as a warrior who didn't recruit Sera, otherwise I never would have realized that this questline was for his benefit.

I managed to avoid the giants for the most part through lots of waiting, watching their pathing, and running the feck the other way ^^ I did, however, end up having to fight two in a row when I managed to leaping shot myself through the map, only to reappear somewhere else entirely and aggro a different giant to the one I was fighting *sigh* I'm playing on hard, so that was fun.
I did enjoy the fear demon rift. Everything died really fast. I've worked very hard to make sure we all have really excellent crafted gear though, so even on hard I'm not particularly feeling much of a challenge most of the time. Plus, I haven't updated to patch 2 (+hotfix) yet, so I may or may not be using flask of fire and thousand cuts on occasion >_> (I try not to too often though, because thousand cuts even on its own is like cheat mode).
Edit: honestly though I only took Thousand Cuts when I got to Emprise. And Maker only knows how I'd have got through the keep there without it. Those giants??!!!?!?!!
Those goddamn giants in Suledin keep. I don't know if it was my build, but I used up 8 potions on each of them! I didn't recall it being that difficult as a rogue!

But the giants give you loads of loot! Money, money, money!
Sera, trying to remember if she left the gas on...

Decor in Val Royeaux and schematics in the Hissing Wastes are the money sink!
buy influenceUseless money after a while. This game needs a money sink...
I completely missed the buy influence guy my first playthrough, saw him second time around and was like..this is freakin awesome!
buy influence
But not too much because once you hit 20 the influence level up BONG noise plays every time you exit any menu of any kind and IT MAKES YOU WANT TO KILL SOMEONE, ANYONE.
I may be an idiot, but I've never been concerned about influence before. What does it do?
Better yet...gimme ya money !!
I'm always broke...apparently I dont kill enough stuff...
