I'll do at least one non-dark-ritual playthrough I think, so I'll hold off watching that video you posted, Phoenix. I like to experience things first hand, but I did want an idea of what the difference was, so thanks, Sardaukar.

The lore implications are interesting but I always find it difficult to justify in context for my Warden.
Archdemons have leap frog souls, there's the tried and tested way of killing the soul without it leap frogging and then there's Morrigan's hippy sex magic she learned from the mother who tried to kill her and is really a dragon (as far as you know). Do you really want to chance the Archdemon surprise Ridley Scotting Morrigan when she's halfway to Orlais? Okay, none of that happens, but Warden doesn't know that.
It was a bit of a double-edged sword scenario, indeed. But ultimately it was worth the risk. Seeing how it pans out through Inquisition, it seems to have worked.
P.S. Who in their right mind would pass up sex with Morrigan?

My rationalisation aside, if there isn't some actual possibility of it going spectacularly ti bits up at some point then I think it was a poor moral conundrum for a video game. Someone has sex with a broody witch or you, your friend, your lover, or the terrible/brilliant strategist get their soul destroyed - take your time.
Hippy sex magic sounds fun though. I know I wouldn't pass up the opportunity.
Less appealing when you have to use Alistair as a proxy. Though it may be better now that I can't think of the whole thing without Soft Cell playing in the back of my mind.

In Bioware games, there don't have to be actual consequences to decisions. There only has to be the conceptual possibility of consequences.
This has been the case ever since ME1's rachni queen decision, something that they obviously took to heart when making ME2 (ending to every companion quest) and DA2 ("tell me Hawke, if you were in my place, what would you do?"). And I, for one, am all for it.

But, we probably won't see the Hero again. At least the Hero died, doing what they love. Killing Dragons!
I do find the US ending appealing since it guarantees closure for the HoF at least. I doubt it will happen otherwise.
The DR does feel a bit cheap, if I'm honest.

Far less interesting, IMO.

I know loads of people here do it all the time and that's fine, but I never particularly enjoyed watching other people playing BioWare games on YouTube. It just doesn't feel right, somehow. I want to experience things with my own character. I make exceptions for particularly arsehole-ish things that I'll never do because I'm incapable of RPing that way, but in general I prefer to play myself.

Since it happens if you're in the romance with her already I found it an entirely logical decision for your Warden to make. You're presumably already sleeping with her and she tells you one more night of passion might also save your life and you're likely to say: "No, look, I've given this a lot of thought and I'd like to pass on the sex tonight and also dying tomorrow sounds just alright with me."
I don't think so.

Its implementation wasn't perfect, but neither was anything else in the game, IMO.The DR does feel a bit cheap, if I'm honest.
In terms of how it ties into the overarching story and its continuation from Origins to Inquisition, I'd say the DR beats the US fair and square.
It works for what it is. But it doesn't really provide the emotional attachment you feel when Keiran is there.I like this version too.
Exactly. My canon romanced Morrigan so it was totally a no-brainer.Since it happens if you're in the romance with her already I found it an entirely logical decision for your Warden to make. I agree that it feels entirely natural when you're in a romance with Morrigan. When you're playing as a woman, though, even when you're good friends with both her and Alistair (I never did a Loghain lives playthrough) it's rather awkward to say the least.

Same here but my friend asked me to watch a walkthrough together because she wants to see the game, but doesn't have a good pc for it. Nor money for a console (poor friend)
And the walkthrough we're watching... sigh. The way he plays make me wanna scream.
He even forgot to give Sera an armor and she was with her underclothes! "Oh, I didn't realize she wasn't wearing armor".

Oh btw, sadly he's the only one who pursues a romance with Sera. Couldn't find another pt with romanced Sera.

I forget but is the non-Keiran version the canon one for BioWare (I am playing it that way now)? If it is I'd say they missed the boat a bit on the emotional impact thingy not to mention the implications for future games.
In my first play-through I used my own world state which included Keiran based on my Origins play. I am using BioWare's version this time so I was curious.

I would hope that (since I plan to do the Sera romance with a mage Lavellan) that Sera and Solas actually fight. I know it does not happen, but there should be more reactions to the romances in general, especially Sera's.
They don't, but he has some choice things to say about her in the quest leading up to getting her a present...

At least it was a practical answer to an otherwise insurmountable scenario.

Ah, see I need to do more playthroughs of Origins but I only did one playthrough before Inquisition came out. Yes, that would be awkward.

Fight for what though? They do "headbutt" each other in party banter but that's all tbh.

The non-keep version is female Dalish elf making the ultimate sacrifice, if I recall correctly. BioWare are at pains to state that this is not "canon" though...

It would be interesting to see what they think is canon then. Ok so Keiran will not appear in my current game then. That's fine. I plan to try a ton of different approaches to the game anyway and I mean, at some point, to go back to the Keep and create a few more scenarios/states to keep me busy.

Intellectually I can understand this, but I don't feel anything.

Sure, but for that to work the consequences have to remain possibilities. If DA:O was a standalone game then people could debate the right choice forever, but if DA5 rolls around and we still haven't had any problems arise from the choice then the reality is that the Dark Ritual is so far a fairly safe choice.
Either way, I prefer the more political choices to the constructed magic ones.

Solas believing Sera is pulling Lavellan away from their people, or something like that.
This is based off of romancing Sera with Elf-quizzy.

I remember when a colleague of mine was watching a let's play of Origins, and the guy spent literally hours playing before he understood how to use injury kits. The amount of little red icons that built up on his screen was hilarious!
