I didn't get to play at all last night. Hopefully I can make up for it this evening.

I have a friend who likes reading up on how old armor was made, and she'll say things like "That looks awesome, but it would never work." Once we watched a Korean movie with a lot of archery in it and the guy was using this sniper arrow with a tube that was... new to me. She found a description of it somewhere so it sounded like it was a real thing at one point. I kind of doubt the arrow would curve in flight like in the movie, but still.

I like watching archery but I don't think I could do it.

What places do people use to host pictures these days?

Oh I don't know. The Josie romance benefits from a few 'rewatch' bonuses.

Look at this picture carefully.

You can YouTube it if you want.

I mentioned it more to mark the question as neutral, though it probably wasn't necessary.

I like both ritual single combat and witty repartee but dueling over a woman seems a bit... possessive.

Archery is pretty fun, tried it a few times as a teenager.

I use photobucket myself, quick and simple.

If you are romancing her, pay close attention to the repeatable kissing scene too. The Inquisitor is totally groping her. :D

Yeah, it's the whole "duel some guy to win your love" just comes off as a bit too romcom for me.

If it helps, I don't really like the Cassandra romance either for similar reasons.

I would like the Josie romance more if there was some conflicts. She would be dating a heathen elf in my game and it just seems like that should cause some issues since she's head of her noble family. I guess her romance works if you play a human (male especially).

I know what you mean. That said, Antiva is supposed to be based off of medieval Italy, and to the best of my knowledge, it wasn't uncommon for two men to duel over a woman back then.

At least that's how I understand it. It's totally possible it was added just for the kicks.

I got more interested in Archery during the last Olympics, as there were two really good Mexican female archers, so my wife and I had someone to cheer who wasn't a Brit, which was fun! (not that either of us are particularly patriotic, but...)

Found her to be awfully protective of an elven Inquisy and that elven greeting at the start, Crim approved and I found it endearing. She gets on very well with Trev also, they have alot in common.

From my limited knowledge of dueling, it wasn't that common to fight over a woman. Most duels had to do with politics and social standing. I think I read somewhere that dueling over a woman was not well perceived and it usually stained the lady's reputation as a heartless manipulator who made good men die for her.

It happened, but I don't think it was all that common.

Well, in this case Josie has told you that there will be no hanky-panky until she has fixed the second-suitor mess.
Getting your snogging rights revoked justifies nuking the competition from orbit in my book, the duel is just the inquisitor being mindful of the collateral damage

Thanks everyone. Turns out I'm a bit early, so I've about half hour before the exam starts...

(I wrote that last right before I left home)

Good luck! I'm sure you won't need it. :)

Leliana threatening to rain pain and misery upon us is proper sisterly concern. This guy is putting a chastity belt on Josie. He deserves way worse than what he got.

Still, the Inquisitor's expression when Josephine shows up...pure 'oh sh*t!'.

She even has family ties with the Trevelyans!

You're possibly correct. My knowledge of medieval Italian history is rudimentary at best. That was just something that I thought might have inspired the dueling scene in some way.

My own knowledge is pretty flimsy. I'm sure they got the inspiration from there though. Duels are romantic. Or they are according to Cassandra. (I know the different meanings of the word).

Somebody needs to do a Josie montage with Disney music...

Thanks! I think I'll try photobucket.

If you google "war of the arrows bow" and look at the images, there are several screenshots of that strange setup he's using. Sometimes he uses a very short arrow and with a tube to make it work with a bow. I can't remember what that was about. I don't know why I love watching archers in movies.

Arrows do curve a bit right after you loose the string.

There's quite a bit of kinetic energy lost because of the fact they have to straighten out before they actually start being "pushed" forward by the kinetic energy.

I'm doing an essay about ranged weapons in pre-historic times right now... Or should be.

Which means I dunno much - it means "Gimme all your info, nao!" :D

Dueling makes sense, I'm not sure a public duel over a woman makes sense in Thedas. Though gender politics in Thedas don't appear to have any history, so I guess there's an element of anything goes.

I suspect duels were always far less romantic than we like to think of them as being, even when they were legal or semi-legal. But there's something about ritual combat that humans love.

Duels have been fought for the most ridiculous of reasons and in the most ridiculous fashion. Take a look here: http://www.cracked.c...er-fought.html
