I'm just barely into the Calling. It's something indescribable that makes me hate her. There's nothing irrefutable that I can point to, I just don't want her on my screen.
It could be that she's just so damned lucky. It's like the heavens move for her and then she squanders her luck. That's how I feel. I can be empathetic, poor lady's been through a lot, but it's the annoyance that she lacks so much vision and insight...she falls into these dumb situations because she doesn't think it through. How'd she become a leader of anything?!
Maybe that's why I love Vivienne and Sera. They're so in your face (LOLs to Sera's, "so here it is, in your face, I'm Sera!"), but drastically transparent and clear. You don't have to question them, they tell it like it is, albeit skewed. But they have incredible insight. Vivi is wise because she's played the game, but she doesn't sway you one way or another. Sera might not be the brightest crayon of the bunch but damn she's deep. When she talked about why she hated her adoptive mother? Aww...I wanted to hug her.
I must admit I didn't know or suspect the Fiona connection to Alistair till after I talked to her in game and it was a lightbulb moment. I was pretty angry at her for the Tevinter bit and then she says that stuff about Alistair and it was hard to completely dislike her after that.
I haven't read the book either and with the backlog I have of stuff I intend to read I think I'll just scan the wiki when I get a chance or let those who have inform me here.

But Calpernia's story is way better than Samson's!
I wanted to keep Calpernia...and Barris was a great incentive.
But I keep getting that nagging feeling that Fiona's going to be useful later...so I'm stuck with her. I don't like it one bit. At least I get approvals from Sera though if I conscript the mages. I don't agree that they should be allies.
Not sure why I like the characters people seem to be so fussy about. Sera's awesome. I love that she's about "people are people" and my PC's not exactly getting along with Solas either. (I can feel that punch prompt coming up...so excited!) Vivienne's awesome. Somehow that works.
