I would be totally down for Leli/Quizzie fanfiction. I mean, I'm down for everything in fanfiction, especially if it's f/f. Not gonna write it because I don't have the time, but I would read it in a heartbreak, won't even lie, shrug.

I have this weird thing where if fanfiction contradicts canon in some way I can't enjoy it. I mean, I respect the people who write it immensely, but I can't get into it at all.

Once upon a time I wrote a fairly massive (like, multiple NaNoWriMo) fanfic that significantly rewrote the plot of The Old Republic. I felt that the kind of character I wanted to play was impossible to make within the game, so I changed her story to better suit myself. I got about 85% done with it - almost all of which was posted online - before a bizarre massive rolling boulder of self-loathing and burnout and work smashed into me and flattened the story. Part of that was a confidence crisis, as I worried about how good my writing actually was. (I especially thought - and think - that I'm a fundamentally derivative fiction writer with no ideas of my own.) Another part was mocking: it wasn't just that my own writing might not be that great, but compared to the actual writers who got actual money to do an actually sanctioned fictional story for millions of people...well.

That, and I got so wrapped up in trying to 'fix' flaws that I perceived in the storytelling that I started finding flaws everywhere. It became impossible to enjoy something that, until that point, had been one of my favorite things to do. I burned out on the game less from playing it (although I played a lot of it) and more from trying to write this fic.

When the dust settled, I felt stupid for trying to change the story. And I hate feeling stupid, as you can probably tell. It sucks, because I come up with about a zillion fanfic ideas each day, and I keep dissuading myself from writing any of them, partially because of worries about time and lack of technical skill but mostly because I feel like if these stories contradicted canon in any way they would be stupid and presumptuous.

It's a silly hang-up on my part. But it's there.

And if anybody was wondering why I can write zillions of words about obscure history on BSN but never actually turn out Sera or Isabela or Leliana fanfic in significant quantities...that's why.

*edit* and just what is the fascination with THAT of all things? you know what? don't answer that. I don't understand most...eh...things. in this case, ignorance is bliss.

 

I think it was a combination of a joke about the elven orb, smutty comic, and staying up waaay too late. It wasn't like anything was discussed in detail. Just a few jokes volleyed around.
