Hope that was coherent.

Yes it was, and it articulates what I was trying to say pretty well. Now get some rest! :D

That's why you need more than one lesbian character in your franchise

That's basically my thoughts on how to make any kind of representation work. The more women you have in the squad the less of a statement each of their hair styles becomes.

I actually think that cars are overrated in general. It was just another example of Italian excellence that sprang to mind. I guess I could've gone with some form of fashion or food-based analogy...

Well I don't really understand a lot of the excitement either. I mean it's not like they're aircraft or anything.

Yep, between the size of Solas' balls and ordering a replica Solas sex doll (and how to fund (kickstarter anyone?) said doll...) We can get really weird over there.

It's like Tali all over again.

Okay, if the Sera thread reaches this level, somebody please throw us a jar of bees and lock the door.

I didn't think females were capable of Tali sweat levels.

Orchid, we couldn't organise a group lunch, you don't need to worry about Kickstarters for Sera dolls. Well at least from us.

Just another reinforcement of the "people are people" thing. Groups of like-minded people can always get out of hand if they allow themselves to. I don't think women and men are really so different. There are just different hormones involved...

they were joking, and a huge argument had broken out that went into the general agreement that nsfw jokes and the like would have to be in spoiler tags and nsfw materials to be linked (maybe also within spoiler tags) but it did get rather uncomfortable. I had only just came back to the thread to read the theories I've been hearing so much about - I haven't visited a solas thread since the first one before the game came out. I've been a Sera-threader exclusively for a while now... but I do love my lore theories and I do like solas... maybe not as much as they like Solas. It sucks that that's pretty much the first thing I run into on my first time back.

since then it's been pretty much exclusively theories. (very enjoyable reads, even if they are a bit outlandish)

See, I don't understand women well... so I (foolishly?) think the best of them, just to be safe :D

But point taken.

Pervy I agree. And welcome. I just thought some of this (Tali sweat stuff) was uniquely male... and dorky. I stand corrected.

In psychological studies, there tends usually to be more variance within genders than between them. You just have to take each person as they come, I feel, regardless of their sex. People are very varied, so it's always going to be tough to understand everyone. Man, woman, intersex, whatever.

Whenever anyone says "X group is like this", then I usually take them to mean either that they are that way, if they are a member of said group, or that they've met a few members of said group who've coloured their opinion. When you're talking about a big group of people, generalisations only ever really apply on a statistical level. They're of little use when dealing with individuals.

Well, for the record, I meant offense.. It was more of a confession of my ignorance than anything. :)

Sorry, that wasn't directed at your original statement. I took no offence whatsoever. I was making observations about generalisations like "lesbians don't wear make-up" or "Parisians are all rude" or whatever.

Hmm, I think there are differences it's just that they aren't necessarily obvious or straightforward, and they don't need to create a radical divide as has sometimes been believed. The problem is that it's difficult to gain sufficient perspective, that and most people are terrible at making generalistations and shouldn't be allowed to.

Yeah there are certainly differences on a statistical level, as I say, so you can say "more lesbians like this than straight men" or whatever, but once you start talking about an individual person, it gets difficult to apply...

No I meant underlying differences, not trends. People are individuals but there are reasons for that, you take the same foundation and layer enough varied experiences and modifiers onto that and you'll get radically difference people, but there will still be common forces working on them.

But it's not important, and I don't have enough perspective to argue it.
