So thats what Mary Sue mean ?? So its like a teacher Pet kinda of thing right ?? 

 

I saw the term used for Liara and Tali from DA2 . Isabela was called a W*** and a S***** . Bethany was mostly Bang**** . Carver was the B****

Mary Sue is a type of plot armour.

 

It's like... the perfect character who can do no wrong (in the writer's eyes) and the rest of the story cast are supposed to love the Mary Sue without questioning anything she does.

Well if ya dont put them online , I say write for fun . I write for fun mostly and to get them out of my brain . That and its a good exercice for me and engrish .

*raises hand* I was creepy toward Bethany...if by creepy you mean objectifying a character that was supposed to be my sister in game. I have never lived that down. I keep typing it in public to shame myself or something because it was the most confusion I had in a game and none since.

I agree with the gist of your comment I was just confused with what the context was. I just looked back a bunch of pages and realized your post was linked to a discussion from last night. I sometimes don't look at the overnight posts so I had missed the conversation that sparked your post.

It does. I guess that what I was saying was that more voices has to be a good thing because not all lesbians or black women or whoever will feel the same or have the same life experiences. That was what I was trying to get to. More representation is better because more should mean more variety. More representation makes it more likely that everyone will find a voice that speaks to/for them. I just don't quite know how to make that happen in a world driven by market economics and catering to the masses...

 

And of course you get idiots like the guy who started the "gay agenda" thread the other day... *facepalm*

I guess the whole creepy part is that she is Hawke sister (and your sister when ya play) . And the fact , so far I havent seen anyone ask her to be a no-sister to start with so they can romance her . Instead , its all I wanna bang her bad..make her so ! 

 

Then again..nothing surprise me nowday . Well there are still surprises...but when it come to Incest stuff..nope...saw it all . 

 

There are mods that are horrifying . So if ya think some Anonymous asking to bang Bethany is creepy...trust me....Thats nothing compared to some mods outta there that are close to nightmarish .

Okay so attempting to catch up..

 

I also think the Potter books are good series for younger readers (and you all make me feel old again by saying you grew up reading them), although if you remove the Severus Snape character Arc, they would be far less interesting or complex, in my opinion.  I felt the first few were okay, but not nearly as good as the hype they got, which is how I would have continued to feel about the series as a whole without the reveal about Snape at the end.  That character arc is wonderful, and the way Rickman portrays him in the movies...I can't separate the two when I read now.

 

I really does seem like the weapon designer in DA likes maces or morningstars over longswords, for the one handers it always seems like there is a better blunt weapon.

 

 

Mary Sue's are also usually overpowered, with a token obstacle that once removed, they have no chance of losing.  Like the simpler Superman plots, where once the kyrptonite is gone he easiily triumphs because no one could possibly stop him without, but he's also never kills the bad guys cause that would be wrong.

 

Or Popeye and his Spinach...

 

Spiders can be good, the kill other bad bugs!!!! Except camel spiders, which aren't even spiders.  I don't care that they aren't poisonous, they are damn aggressive and freaky to look at.

 

 

I liked the DA2 companions, yes I'm a straight mail so yes, the style of Varric's storytelling did not hurt I'm sure, but I liked the fact you could change Isabella enough that she would go against her nature and come back...I LOVED Merrill, she is my favorite romance option from DA2

 

I also was creepy towards Bethany...  she's sweet, caring, intelligent, so even without the appearance factor, and she's not MY sister, just the character's sister...  I almost never have her die when I play, I like her too much...she's too sweet!
