I agree that DA:I doesn't deliver many big emotional punches, but it had some amazing smaller moments. Cass's breakdown after attacking Varric, Dorian's personal quest, like half of Cole's banter...in general, and not just with that, I think the game fails overall but is redeemed by the details that work.

Also I finally got Blackwall's dog scene. Dude. I'm so glad I had the "uh this is not the fireside chat I was expecting" dialogue option. I mean, great convo, very meaningful. But dark, lmfao, Blackwall....just be normal, you're way more fun when you're talking about tripping balls in the desert or betting on fat nugs.

Yeah I want the circle to be run by Mages .

I think both the blood mage and the Templar are an abomination . One often is cornered to become a Blood Mage then everyone goes 'Ohh see I told ya so' . And the other is a monster made but nobody question it .

While I agree with the threath part , I also disagree . Cose dead is dead . Why would a dead person killed by a Blood Mage or an Abomination be worth more then a farmer killed by bandits or Pirate ?

Add to that , they have the same fear toward the Qunari . Those who all they do is fear fear and fear and their solution is lock up or kill shouldnt be put in a position where they have power over others . Leave the job to someone who can make a system that will get better with time . Not a crappy system that would never change cose everyone is clueless....

Definitely, responsible mages are the right choice to run whatever you have in place for training, be it a circle or something else.  I liked the Templars until I found out they had to become addicted to Lyrium, and all of their mental power came from the Lyrium.  I don't know that I would use the same label of abomination, but then I wouldn't use it for all blood mages either.  But definitely not good, addicted to Lyrium is bad.  So is Fear driving Solutions, so I'm with you there.

On the threat part, an abomination mage is considered worse than a pirate or bandits because a single abomination can kill far more people far more quickly.  Demon possessed mages who are casing super powerful area spells that burn an entire firm all at once or freeze and entire crowd of people instantly, those kinds of things.  A single bandit or pirate can't do that.  Abominations are also much harder to kill.

But then, things like the black powder, the gaatlock, and scientific advancements that haven't come yet to Thedas can be just as dangerous, they just aren't wide spread yet.

Yeah

But thats why it make it weak . See , a good game shouldnt rely on the side quest or companions personal quest or story to be good . It should be GOOD without them .

Those are addition to the already Good game wich make it even greater .

Bah..

It just peoples fear . One man can anhilite a whole city or civilization if he has the right ambition and tools . So thats why I dont buy it .

Look at the Arishok !!! one dude behedead the one in charge and left the city crippled . If there were no mage or Templar...kirkwall would have been taken and he didnt have an army with him .

Agreed!

I mean I've had a lot of fun with the game, but it's not their best offering. I find it easier to overlook its flaws than others for some reason, but I def won't deny that they're there.

I don't know that they've made their best offering yet. I got a lot of "feels" from this game storywise and the characters were better written and better evolved than those in Origins or DA2. But I think where it falls just short of masterpiece is in the decision to cram a lot of filler quests into every region. There should have been more ways to tie each region into the main story in some beefier way than just closing rifts and establishing camps that give the InQ some power and influence. Each region should have had some major event tied to Corypheus or one of the characters in the game.

I think what it's really missing is a conclusion. The epilogue slides weren't enough.

There's clearly some unresolved plot items at the end. We need to know what Solas is going to be up to going forward. I sense that's an expansion though and we probably will have to deal with the impact of the changes of the Chantry. I've wondered already in this thread today if an expansion that tries to resolve some of the loose ends (Solas) will make people more satisfied when we speak of the game a few years from now.

Agreed. Someone posted a review not long ago and said that the game felt like it was 'two games in one'.

I felt the same. It's like the protagonist and the story don't fit each other. We have the action adventure field hero going to close tears, recruit people and collect resources, then we have the almighty Inquisitor who makes decisions and assigns agents.

It kinda felt like we were both the boss and an underling. This game could have benefited from a dual protagonist.

The game is good , beautiful and gorgeous . Game play sure is solid (if painful)...

But it doesnt have that heart wrenching story . I'm not saying every side quest should be about death and loss and grief . But it isnt wowing , nothing memorable .

I've played old games , where I still recall places in the games where I went all 'Oh wow thats awesome' ...or 'Omg That B**** how could he!!' .

Maybe it was easier back then..I dont know . I know this : I have been playing games for ages and I eat stories like hell . And no matter what , I do feel a decline in the quality in DAI .

And its funny , because a couple of years ago.....the RpG were the one on top . Nowdays it seem Horros Movies and games are the one on Top . Stories are better if scary like hell...while RPG are going extint at this rate .

*Okay every alternate universe has airships in it, that's how you know it's an alternate universe.

In related news, most alternate-historical or AU fiction is not very rigorous. Hell, Archer had a far more sensible take on airships than the rest of those doofs.

(Edit) Though now that you mention it a timeline dominated by shapeshifting unicorns is terrifying.

Spoiler

Alexia prefers more story focused games. Skyrim, with its random exploration, is not for her.

Eh. I didn't much like Skyrim either. I didn't like that people tried to get me into it with a "it's a 'smart people' RPG with a lot of history and a huge world, right up your alley!"...with the accompanying implication that games with a more 'focused' path are for idiots.

But more importantly, I couldn't figure out a reason to care about this particular fantasy world over any other. The world was the main attraction, but as far as I was concerned it wasn't sufficiently differentiated from any other fantasy world in its essentials, and many of the constituent parts of the world were problematic anyway. It didn't react to your actions short of the perma-death of NPCs, the sum total effect of which was to make the world seem significantly more empty than it already was. Apart from the world itself, what else about the game was supposed to be a selling point? The godawful voice acting, or the ass-ugly faces? The one-dimensional characters? Or the "plot"?

Well yes...and no. I agree in the sense that good triumphs over Cory and rather handily and easily and so that part of the ending is about as emotionally whammy bam as an old Superman comic. "Yay...Superman...the good guys...win. Yay."

The game I played had a pay-off in the epilogue that had some impact for me. I went from the Star Wars/Disney ending/Death Star explodes which was predictable to seeing that Leliana turned out horribly and that the Inquisition was so powerful that people feared and distrusted it and that there were those who plotted against the Inquisitor. The epilogue I got was very dark and bittersweet and the rah rah turned to disquiet.
