Wow, what a lot of flailing about just because Sera doesn't want to talk with something that in any case is not a byword for "trustworthiness" :?

But he's a possible companion so everyone should want to be his best friend.

Ignoring what we know about him, the inquisitor's got to be a little crazy to even let him join up. Realistically, it makes sense that Sera doesn't trust him. In fact if she did, I'd be more worried.

I think it's important to remember that spirits, as far as I've seen in DA, don't identify with specific genders, and it was pure chance that Cole is in a male body. He may not care at all whether Sera calls him "it", even if we as players see it as dehumanizing...he's not human.

While the intent might be that spirits don't identify with gender, looking through the game I see most spirits/demons are portrayed as masculine save for Boobies McGirlybits the desire demon. They are about as non-gendered as the Transformers.

They're about as non-gendered as Asari.

Do you think Sera will warm up to Cole by the end of Inquisition?

With the breach and Cole being the spirit that haunted the White Spire there are pretty good reasons for the party having reservations about him (especially Varric who saw how having a spirit on the team can blow up in your face...literally).

Sera seems like she trusts her instincts more than logic. You don't run with people like the Friends of Red Jenny without being quick-witted, and someone like Cole who looks, acts, and has powers like a demon might as well be one in her book.

I think she will by then

Because like we said earlier her distrust for Cole looks like fear because he's a fade entity

I think there's a good chance she might warm up to Cole, depending on how his path works. She's reacting out of fear, so I imagine she'll react accordingly to whether he convinces her that he does genuinely want to help or not. And Cole has never been portrayed as the grudging type, so I imagine he'll go along with whatever her mood is at the time.

Soooooo I give it a week before someone does fanart of Sera doing an impression of Javik and his "throw it out the airlock".

That said... I completely get where Sera is coming from. Especially since this desire to help others is coming on the wings of seriously demonic sounding threats towards Lambert in the epilogue. That last few pages did not sound like someone trying to do good. It sounded like a You're Gonna Take My Secret To The Grave Stabby Times.

wow, this is my only subscribed thread that even posted today, and it's dissolved into arguing again.

okay so she doesn't like cole and calls him an it, this is fascinating, and makes me want to make a party with the two of them in it just to see how they react as things evolve.  perhaps she won't even know he is there, etc etc etc.

part of what makes bioware great is how the companions do not always get along.  and in their bickering you learn their hypocrisies and to me it fleshes things out.

as for her calling cole an "it" , that shows her youthfulness, and her own dirty reflection in the mirror of her, or if we want to get all Jungian her own shadow self.  so it should be fun watching that, watching her confront her own inner "demons", if bioware chooses to go down that path.

she is some one who probably has been marginalized, so her calling something an "it" is wonderful in studying her personality, which we still know jack squat about really.

maybe Red Jenny was killed by a demon?

i think it was aaron beck who said (and i am paraphrasing) that when we wish to belittle a culture, person, people by referring to them as less than human; we are trying to justify our own inner hatred. by making something/one else less, the individual can "justify" hatred.  but there has to be stimuli there already.  so she must have had some traumatic experience or religious views.

again fascinating, i can't wait to pair them up

I have to agree. While Cole might turn out as a benevolent spirit during the game, I'm more inclined to keep an eye on him/it and make sure he/it doesn't go into "Demon Serial Killer" mode instead.

Did aaron beck say anything about sharks and what to do if there's a shark in your house and it's wearing a mask and saying "hi" but all you can think about is the teeth--so many teeth--because sharks are real, and everyone knows they only do one thing, mean it or not, and maybe it's not a shark but it's sure seems like it has fins and is that a mask or not what if it takes it off and then just teeth I can't stop thinking about teeth IT DOESN'T MOVE RIGHT!

****** hell, Bioware. You were so close.

Well, we'll see if this can be remedied. If not... well, Vivienne's dust on the wind in any case, so that would seriously narrow my options.

I can't tell is this is a mark of brilliance or madness.  They say the line is narrow, but apparently the area between genius and insanity on the DA team is quite thin indeed.

Thanks for the giggle.   :D

if a shark says "hi" to me, i think i would be dead regardless.

but yes, i get your point and love it.  again i cannot wait for the interaction of these two individuals, for all of these fun little reasons and now teeth!

(first time bioware has ever responded to me, ever! on any platform btw)

and now i will have visions of classic SNL landsharks in my head

Then kindly don your big girl pants. You're in the Inquisition now, in the service of a rabid elf necromancer who'll delve into whatever magic looks most interestingly dark. This is not the streets of the common folk and it never will be for you again.

By the way, sharks aren't all bad.  Just check out Bruce from Finding Nemo.

Okay, bad example.  Just don't bleed around him and you'll be fine.

Or she just doesn't trust Cole because he's a Fade Spirit/Demon during a breach that has demons coming out killing people

Maybe I was a little more spot on with my shark comparison in the Cole thread than I thought.

If Sera, Iron Bull, and Varric were to stand on top of each others shoulders, would it go Iron bull > Sera > Varric or Iron Bull > Varric >Sera

I almost called it a human pyramid/stack thing before I realized how inaccurate that was.

I imagine Sera would be on top. She might be taller than Varric, but she looks lighter.

(I'd post the backflip gif but I can't find it.)

Actually since Varric is a rogue I wonder if he can learn the same backflip abilities as Sera.

I wonder if I can get them to synchronize their backflips and enter them into a competition.
