Oh btw Inquisitor all your clan has been wiped out, yeah everyone you loved dead but here have some gold, all 88 pieces to make you feel better. We cool right?

I got it right though on my 3rd run, with my elf who romanced Josie. The outcome is epic if you do it correctly.

I totally raged. Tried to run to Solas' arms for comfort, but all he said was "Hello." And then "Goodbye." Grrr!

Oh I need to fix that sometime. I wish I'd kept her very first save so that I could save her clan.

That one I could associate with watching balls in the fade. Sort of like how I watch crazy drama shows on tv.

His big tell for me was in the Emerald Graves and how he remarks on how the trees have grown since he'd been there last.

Uncle and you would make good detectives!

I didn't get the impression of him watching things as a casual observer at all. I got the impression of someone who knew what it was like to keep secrets and form alliances at first hand.

But that puppy story makes me rage every goddang time.

I had real trouble getting through that the first time. Subsequent playthroughs went more like this...

"Oh hey, thanks for the beer!"

"When I was little there was this dog--"

I think that I'd make a good fictional detective, as I often pick up on the clues given in shows and books and the like. That's because in such stories, anything that seems like a throwaway comment usually isn't. Sadly in real life that's not how things work...

I did too. I was like "Why didn't my warden know that Blackwall was kicking around somewhere? I should have run into him with all the darkspawn I destroyed!"

Lol, how about his warden knowledge, so how do you kill an archdemon then Blackie? Erm yeah just stick it with a grey warden sword, simple.

I thought the job qualifications for fictional detective were (pick one or more of):

  • A wondrous pipe and ascot
  • Antisocial personality
  • Ability to ask questions that make people uncomfortable
  • Werewolf boyfriend

In fiction we need those slip-ups so the hero/heroine can catch them out and eviscerate their alibi's. Makes for a good climactic ending. In real life it's usually not so clever or easy to catch a well concocted lie.

All of those sound like an excellent graphic novel series! Especially the last one! "By day I solve crimes and by night I try and stop my werewolf boyfriend from perpetrating them!"

It's not even just detective stories. I remember the first time I watched Jurassic Park, when they mentioned how Velociraptors hunt, and then the dinosaur with the poisonous spit, I thought both times "Someone's going to die that way." Especially in a movie, one rarely hears information that won't be pertinent later. They don't have time for that!

Its storytelling mechanics.  It does depend on the twist and how they are doing it, but generally speaking you don't get any emotional payoff from just being an answer or a secret that isn't some how introduced or hinted at.

As Uncle said...in the real world unfortunately its not the case.  Sometimes the answer is the raving lunatic that no one has seen, heard about, or even new existed until they found 50 bodies dug up in his backyard......

which they only dug up because they searched his home....

after he was arrested for indecent exposure.....

and why was he arrested for indecent exposure....

CAUSE NO BREECHES!!

((sera would so be a crazy vigilante in real life))

I found Blackwall more interesting as the story went on. And the little clues throughout his dialog the second time are great.

His big reveal at Val didn't shock me though first time round, then again I wasn't that invested in Blackwall to begin with, feelings of oh welp that happened. How much for bail? :P

But the beeeeeard....ya can use as a Mop or a shield..how could say No to tha beaaard !

Well joking aside , I feel split about blackwall . I do like him , but he is a hypocrite and a preachy precha....I hate that . Make me wanna slug him into reality....

Aside from that....the art about him made him look impressive . In game...he look like a dwarf that got resized for some reason...

My quest marker didn't show Val Royeaux my first playthrough, so I was very surprised. I went to Val Royeaux to buy furniture, thought Blackwall was gone forever. (No I didn't pay attention to the report I was handed.) And as I walked around the Bazaar a cutscene triggered! I was shocked. :P

"Okay Cullen, what are my options?"

"Well we can bail him out, try a diplomatic solution (because that always goes so well), invade Val Royeaux with Templars and/or Mages, or leave him there."

"You're pretty much going to be okay with whatever I decide, aren't you?"

"Yup."

Now I'm imagining a conversation in which I say "Look I'm ex-Carta, do you have any idea the things I've done? You're not the only one with a past here. Let's just have a beer and dog-free conversation."

This happens far too often. In reality I would be a terrible Inquisitor.

"Just put it on my desk."

"But you never go to your quarters."
"Desk full of reports. Sera in pub. What was your question?"

Hey dwarf can be impressive !

But he just doesnt....all armors on him look like he is wearing Pj ....

and really......watered down personality . He doesnt act like a warden *while I do hate the warden...I can respect when its well written * like Duncan who had charisma and acted like one , ya just wanted to slug him for it .

So him and IB..ya know..both are supposed to be this and that..and both are nothing like that . And both get lame personal quest and I'm supposed to give a damn...but laaaaaaaaaaame...stopped caring.....

Who do you think has the best personal quest of any of the characters? It's a toss up for me between Leli, Cass, and Dorian.
