Yeah you broke it down more than I have the energy to do right now. I spend more time in Hinterlands right away though. First priority is always stopping mages/templars, recruiting horsemaster, and getting Food and Clothing quests for the peoples...then I go to Val Royeux.
and yes, I recommend to to everyone to go talk to the mages first. It really helps the main plot flow better and not seem so odd if you are choosing the Templars.

Fighting zombies and demons in the rain is just not my cup of tea.
I went over to the stables the other day and Aithne says "Oh no, I forgot all about the hoses in the hinterlands!" And all I could do was snigger. I also don't bother with blankets or rams, because I'm a terrible person but I have no energy to hunt for stupid caches.
It makes Dorian seem way less suspect.
