I wonder if Sera is a later in game recruit. I imagine we sart in ferelden and she's in orlais...

I hope she isn't.  I'm rolling a mage, probably not recuiting Cole and don't want to use Varric since I he was my main rogue in DA2.

Trusting a demon in times of demon invasion is foolish
Though so was trusting an assassin who just tried to murder you
Zevran was worth a bit of OOCness but I blame no one for not trusting him at first. Him or Cole the Demonic Thing

I had my wardens accept Zevran but kept a close eye on him to see if he's worth it

My Inquisitor's will pretty much be the same with Cole

I'm picturing angry berating and the Inquisitor just smiling at her because Sera isn't the one who got hurt, maybe with her head in Sera's lap while she lies there all bandaged up. Tiny girlfriend refuses to leave, what if something else happens when she isn't around?

Btw if my talking about her ever seems to make assumptions it's largely because I end up picturing the Inquisitor as a qunari lady.

While not a bad scene, wouldn't the presence of healing magic make the whole "bandaged and weak" thing somewhat unlikely?

Logically, that's naive
He is an assassin, there is no proof he won't try again and since he supposedly is stealthy enough to run away or backstab (it's his job duh) the only way anyone with common sense would keep Zevran at first is by tying him up at night
Same with Sten
Cole is even scarier

Anyway, I can totally understand Sera not trusting the boy: it's only logical

I'm willing to accept Fenris' issues because his backstory went well above and beyond that which mundanes can generally expect from mages, though even then I still didn't like him much. But trying to deny anyone basic personhood is something that I cannot abide under any circumstances, to the point of actually wanting to call Dr. Chakwas out on it--fairly hard (well, hard by Paragon standards)--during that argument with Adams in ME3.

1) We have no clue of Sera's background with demons.
2)We don't know if she meant to dehumanize Cole.
3) we don't know if Cole cares or refers himself as 'him' or 'it'.

If Sera is Andrastian (which seems likely), it's not surprising that take issue with a spirit walking around Thedas, at a time of crisis with spirits posing a threat with the Breach; I think it would be more unusual if she wasn't apprehensive towards Cole.

You don't even have to be Andrastian to think this...it's not really a religious thing.

I think you just need eyes to see all the demons killing people.

There should be a general difference with how a poor city elf who grew up in the slums views demons/magic/Fade things vs. a Dalish elf and I don't necessarily think it's because of religion.  Like I said before, the poor of Thedas (including city elves) never see the benefits magic can provide.  The Dalish live among mages that are free to use their 'gifts from the Creators' to help the Clan with things like, magical healing.  Even the non-mages of the Clan get to enjoy these benefits.  Sure, bad things happen with magic...Keepers get possessed, etc. but there are plenty of good things to balance that out.

City elves (and poor/common folk in general) never see the good side.  Their mages are swiftly taken to the Circle or they run and hide and possibly become dangerous to those they hide among.   These mages don't have the luxury of using their magic to benefit the people of the Alienage.   The only people who would ever benefit are the wealthy/powerful who get to use Circle mages in times of war.   Their limited experience with magic and things from the Fade would most certainly always be negative even before the Breach.

No, maybe a handful of people are miffed about it and a handful of other people are mad that people are miffed.

I think there's a larger part of the thread that wants to talk about Sera stuff instead of the same 4 or so people arguing about Cole and bringing it up over and over.

Have you been to tumblr and bsn lately? Cause for every Sera fan there has appeared about 3 persons overreacting to her attitude

Maybe it's the Varric re-telling of the story. Or there's no healer in the party. "If only Solas had learned a single healing spell."

I wonder if Sera being a member of the Friends of Red Jenny will have given her more exposure to magic than a typical city elf.

Both Athenril's smugglers and Meeran's mercenaries saw a benefit to having apostates around. Then there's characters like Sketch. Maybe it's routine for criminal groups to hire a mage on... Or perhaps it's that apostates are drawn to such groups because of their already illegal status?

If Solas is revealed today, what do you think they'll say about his and Seras relationship?

It is possible Sera in particular has had more exposure to magic, sure.

The Friends of Red Jenny were trying to steal something from Irving...though we have no idea why or if it's related to magic.

I can understand general distrust of someone with Cole's background, but the whole 'calling him 'it'' thing is really bothersome. I don't think anyone ever deserves to be depersonalized like that, no matter their crimes.

I don't expect it to be the whole of her being, and I am fully on board with being able to argue the fact with her, hopefully even get her to come around to at least call him 'him' instead of 'it.' It's just a negative mark about her that does bother me. But there are plenty of characters who are problematic that I like, so I intend to keep an open mind until actually meeting her.

I really don't think it's unreasonable to distrust Cole. The vast majority of spirits people come across are demons who want to do bad things.

Add on the fact that Cole can turn invisible and stab people in the back.

As far as "it" goes...how many of you would disagree with a character calling a rage demon "it"?

Or maybe that box is where all the female dwarves hid during da2.
