Oh, no... I'm not a good pilot anymore. I used to be pretty decent. But I never really was among the best.

 

There is this situation two or three years ago when during the Operation Overlord virtual reenaction in Il-2 1946...

But that's a long time past.

I'll share the story, but spoiler it. Not everyone's interested in hearing my old aviation stories.

My squadron was the 609th RAuxAF, armed with the Hawker Typhoon at the time of the invasion. The whole event took from Friday night to Sunday evening.

 

Turns out, our first mission is PITCH BLACK bombing run on a Luftwaffe airfield, just about forty klicks away from the coast.

So we start up our engines, roll to runway, take off...

And lose each other almost as soon as we turn off our positional lights on either wingtip and tail.

So I end up having to navigate all the way to France, across the Channel, by myself. Mind you, our home field was near Southampton while our target was... I think it was the Abbevile aerodrome. So after half hour in the cockpit, with nothing but my cockpit lights for companions, I finally see France. I try to navigate as best I can, and somehow find the target airfield. I manage to drop my bombs on the field, creating two neat craters, as I imagine - the German Flukabwehrkanonen crews are filling the skies with tracers, leaving me with no intention to conduct a BDA.

On my way back, I spot a twin-engine with it's lights lit on my 11 o'clock - German, I think. Without the lights, I would never have a chance to see the plane.

I slowly turn around, get behind the plane, line up my sights, and kiss the trigger of my four twenty milimeter cannons.

As the guns launch a short burst of death towards the target, I can see a wing break off.

As I start celebrating snatching possibly the first kill of the entire weekend event, the game gives me a short notice on the lower left part of my screen: Friendy Aircraft Destroyed.

Considering I would think it be a Bf-110 Nachtjagd, I am all the more surprised, and start calling out the coordinates over the radio, hoping a pilot managed to save himself without me noticing.

I return to base, and the Mosquito pilot reports getting shot down by a Nachtjagd - the very thing I thought I killed.

 

A day later, on Saturday, I'm tasked with relocating to France - alone, as my squadron already did so while my plane was being repaired and I was catching forty winks over the night.

I regroup with them, and continue on a ground attack mission - Trouble! We encounter a flight of Fw-190F, doing the exact same thing.

Unfortunately for us, they have the advantage, and most of my flight is annihilated on their first passes. Only doing a different maneuver saves me, and allows me to line up a short on a Focke Wulf, just before it tears off the tail of one of my friends. I am too late in pressing the trigger, but all the more deadly with the surge of anger. My long burst tears the German to pieces.

The trouble is not gone, however, as I find my own engine hit my MG151/20 fire coming from behind me - I have to bail.

As I exit the cockpit, the German hits my parachute, no doubt not having enough time to notice my swift exit.

I plummet to my death, knowing I am the only one who bit back, and sad at the loss of four brilliant pilots from my squadron.

 

Don't forget the human sacrifice, blood magic, stealing Shemlen children, cos it's all true.

I know! Most of the stuff you find on the internet must be staged or something. There is no way you can have a camera on at the precise time something good is about to happen.

yeah! I watched several videos of people fighting in the nyc subway. I was disappointed that when I visited nyc, I saw no such thing

 

it was just... full. and creepy people looking at you.

And to think Goonies 2 is in the works. I really wish Hollywood would stop screwing up my childhood. 

 

They've run out of good ideas. What we need is Hollywood to employ children with the imagination for good movies. Take those ideas, and turn them into movies better fitted for other audiences.
