Considering that in order to gain power she was complicit in the murder of her lover's family and didn't even tell her, I hardly think that tricking some idiot into getting tied up on a bed is the worst thing she's ever done. Everything else, including her sexuality is secondary to her being obsessed with keeping power, as it is for gay and straight Orlesian nobility alike. At least the ones who do well in The Game...

To trick him for sex. Nothing happened, he clearly says so. I could see it as her demanding (in a sexy way so he'll think it's play) to take off his clothes and rest on the bed and then tie him. Then questions ensue.
And other people could see it differently and they would have every right to do so, because it's left completely ambiguous. LightningPoodle's reaction is an example of that - he questioned if she was supposed to be gay.
Imagine what an average straight person would think: Yeah, she wanted to get the info, but obviously she couldn't be so completely uninterested if she even wanted to go into seduction on the first place, and went so far as making him naked.
The writers could make up any other reason leading to the same result, but they had to make a lesbian be put in sexual situation with a man.

That further shows my point - she's so ruthless, yet with that man she had to lower herself into seducing him? So some person could therefore conclude - so maybe she was actually into that?

I never thought that. I thought she was just cleverly taking advantage of an idiot's lust, at a time when she had to get him out of the way quickly.

I love how this is added at the end.
Yes, we mustn't forget alcohol.

Thinking about it, one might say that in this instance Celene was being compassionate, as she figured out a way merely to incapacitate the man without actually killing him...

Coffee is a gift from the gods, yet people spurn it! Spurn it, I say!
I do not spurn it. Coffee is unspurnable. Unless one of the guys in the office makes a pot from that year-old coffee barrel they insist on keeping around.
(firefox how dare you not know the word unspurnable)

Yeah, i understand. Made me side-eye it a lot too but i guess knowing she's gay, i shrugged and moved on.
But other straight poeple who haven't read the book might think that, true.

Ignoring the sexuality side of things, it's another case of a woman of influence needing to use sex to exploit a man, and another case of an idiotic man falling for it. Which is at best, trite.

You really don't see any problem at all that this kind of scene happened? Ambiguous enough to let one side come with one sort of explanations, but also making it vague enough that completely different interpretation could be valid as well?
Lesbians have to deal with this kind of stuff all the time. Lesbian characters placed in some sexual situation with a man under some excuse that it's "completely about something else". Of course, playing up to old incredibly damaging myths about our sexuality, that we're not "truly" gay like gay men and deep down, we need d**k. And it's not like it's the first Bioware game that did this kind of thing.
Seeing Samantha Traynor, lesbian character, as a fanservice, a willing object of male gaze triggered something in me because I'm rape survivor – and I feel that men like the one who thought my lesbianism means an invitation had a good laugh playing that game, seeing that lesbian teasing because she couldn't help getting semi-naked and displaying her charms to suggestively gaping manShepard.
And now another ambiguous enough sexual situation involving lesbian and a man in another Bioware game.

woww.....a lot of negativity in what I missed overnight...maybe no more goats for all of you.... well here's my two cents
-I happen to like Bioware's writing a lot, even in DA:I, and I consider myself an educated, intelligent person who has also read a ton of fantasy. Sure there are things they could do better, but they still are writing worlds and stories better than the vast majority of other game companies out there in my opinion.
- I happen to really enjoy DA:I, and consider it better than DA2 but not as good as DA:O. I am a bit shocked when people say its so bad its 'unplayable' but then again, everyone is entitled to their opinion and gaming tastes of course. I'm just surprised.
-I like the Dalish, but I haven't had enough coffee to answer Eirene post (excellent post btw even if I strongly disagree with it), and I doubt it will change their opinion so I might not spend the time anyways. In short, I really like the Dalish, yes they have some flaws and they are very closed off. They don't trade often with others because they craft to meet their needs, create their own supplies..
since the Hallah are basically magical genetic creations, there could be properties or abilities they have specifically when guiding the clan, or maybe thats the 'traditional' story but the keepers actually guide them where they need to go to follow game or go to resource rich areas.
edit: I also meant to mention the Dalish isolation makes sense given their past treatment
-I also really like the Solas romance. its very tragic, and Solas is very tragic, but given who he is and his background, it makes sense....I also like Solas in general.

Any form of pain is not a good way to coerce information out of someone. A person will say anything -even lie - to stop the pain. Messing with a persons head is better. In a sexual sense, you would usually reveal the information to move the situation along faster but also, you are going to be thinking about sex, and nothing else.

It's so cruel. It was her last remaining keepsake of her dead clan, and she gave it up because she loved him, and it was important to him.And then he. leaves. her!!
When you put it that way, I'm pretty much never going to try that romance ever.
I mean, I wasn't tempted, but there are things I don't want to roleplay.

as a straight male, nothing in the game mad me think Celene wasn't gay or that she needed/wanted anything sexually with men.
That is just one impression and I'm not going to weigh in or contest whether or not the scene is still ambiguous or negative towards gay women.
But then I've also never heard of the (ridiculous) idea that men can be gay but women can't really be gay, so it wouldn't occur to me so maybe thats why I missed it
