I suppose now is a bad time to mention that I find Blackwall as boring as Solas.

Positives:

 

Sera - umm, young?

Dorian - idealist, intelligent, witty, talented, good person at heart

 

Negatives:

 

Sera - selfish, impulsive, frenetic, no self awareness

Dorian - umm, cocky?

lol, its clearly a very incomplete description of Sera. Obviously theres more thats just not included in that file. Becuase Sera has much more depth than that in the game. I wouldn't get bent out of shape of an incomplete early description of Sera.

 

Its also possible that this is a VERY early description of Sera and that more redeeming characteristics were added latter.

Yeah, I don't think it means anything. Like I said, I wouldn't even assume they were written by the same person or with he same idea of what they wanted to convey in mind.

Compare how Sera and Dorian are portrayed in game, and I think both are done very well and given a lot of love, except that Sera's flaws are explored in a more meaningful way, so people dislike her more due to exposure to those flaws even though it arguably makes her a more interesting character.

Same with Blackwall vs Solas, imo.

To be honest, most people I know seem to hate Sera mostly because they find her voice and how she talks annoying. So its mostly subjective superficial hate. Nothing wrong with it exactly but its not a deep seated hate of Sera.

According to Cole: has a good voice and is good at singing but doesn't like it, loves dancing but can't.

Come on. Sera isn't useless as the devs try to paint her. The game clearly shows there's more to Sera than this.... short description.

First off, lingering descriptions in the code could be as old as the original game's treatment. There's no way to know when they were written, and they mean almost nothing in the context of the game come release.

 

Secondly, if you're going to constantly post major spoilers, could you please try putting them in a spoiler tag? I've had two major plot points ruined for me in one day, and I'd like to try and get through my playthrough without having all of them wrecked.

Blackwall gets a pass from me, if only because he also makes fun of Solas (and Sera put him up to it). He could stand to lose a bit of that moping around after his secret is discovered, though.

And nah lol I idc if someone finds Blackwall boring lmao. esp if you have the banter bug, he takes a lot of attention to be interesting IMO. He's like Sera I think that he has some of the best writing but it's subtle and you have to want to find it, so most people (understandably tbh) go "lol wev bye"

He and Sera are legit my favorite tho, and I love that they're the two most disliked/ignored characters and they end up all BFF like, like "us against all the nobs" lmao.

Hah, I knew it! People like to ascribe various political beliefs to Sera, but I always thought she really had none, beyond "stick it to the man".

It's fascinating because Sera is almost like a player character dressed up as an NPC. What she wants is to kill the bad guys, take their stuff, and maybe save the world in the process. She has no more respect for her fellow NPCs than a player would, whether it's making fun of Solas or playing pranks on Josephine. It's awesome.

 

I think I only once projected myself into the game that I really wanted to fulfill the mission as *myself*. It was in NWN2: MotB. After all that agitation from Kaelyn, seeing what a great injustice that Wall of the Faithless was and all that hard work while preparing the revolution, forging alliances with terrible monsters to fight gods, it suddenly ended like nothing happened and I didn't even have dialogue options to express my disappointment.

The Blackwall v Sera friendship is amusing and cute.

 

I like Vivienne a lot even though she also gets hated on. But then, she is an unapologetic B. But I love that her about her, same reason Emma Frost is probably my favorite x-man.

No offence to Eirene, but if she and I were to describe Sera, her description would likely be three times a long as mine. No judgement on whose description would be better. I just tend to be economical with my words. I always struggled to meet word counts in academic assignments. It's just down to different writing styles. 

 

As veeia pointed out, Sera and Dorian had different writers. Gaider is verbose, has a twitter and a tumblr etc and Lukas well... he occasionally posts on BSN. To compare these abstracts seems unfair, given the difference between the writers who likely supplied them.

I didn't feel any particular way about Blackwall at first, but I really ended up liking his story, and his relationship to the other characters (especially Sera). I guess there are no companions I actually dislike. Even my annoyance with Solas is more about limited choices in how to approach conversation with him than with him personally.
