How good is Sera if you give her daggers instead of a bow? I'm asking because I want to have Cassandra, Solas, and Sera (until I get Cole) in my party, but I'm playing as a mage, so I need two melee.

The AI is decent at DW rogues, it knows how to stealth backstab! But it doesn't know how to dodge AoE attacks so you have to be careful with them and often its best to control DW rogues yourself vs dangerous enemies.
And you don't really need two melee characters. 1 tank and 3 ranged works great in this game.

Oh, ok, thanks! I'm just going off of what the guide says about giving Varric daggers in the beginning if you're a ranged character, so I've never played but 2 ranged 2 melle except for small missions.

If you've got multiple mages, you've got multiple Barrier cooldowns, which can be pretty handy in the early game when CD is longer and Barrier strength is low.

True. Find some cover for the three range and use the tank to keep the away from your range.You can steamroll most enemies what that kind of setup so long as you ensure the tank is using taunts correctly.

it really is the most amazing spell in the game. lol
Get Energy Barrage and beatline for Static Cage, the two passives along the way are useful.
Drink a mana potion and then cast upgraded Static Cage followed quickly by Energy Barrage. Watch enemies melt.

About the only other thing I can recommend for mages is be sure to carry at least a fire and ice staff for each mage in your party. Having the extra damage really helped me during dragon fights when I was running with two mages in my party.

You don't need two melee. I played my entire first run on hard with a two mage, Sera with bow and tank party, and I think that would be easier now on nightmare than my current daggers rogue.

I want to make a character specifically for Sera, and Abaeni doesn't really fit that mold.
Although, should I do dwarf or qunari for Sera? I do love the qunari content...
