I sort of hope not... I'd rather not mix too closely with qunari spies.

Leliana was a spy for the Divine and I liberally mixed with her.

Varric does look like he got 'hardened' a bit, though I'm sure he will still have that 'bro' feel to him.

He'll still be your buddy. Otherwise it wouldn't hurt as much when they kill him off.

So did I, but the Divine is at least marginally sympathetic. The qunari are flat-out evil.

My problem with Sera's reaction to Cole being accepted into the party is less, "OMG MY BABBU LEAVE HIM ALONE YOU MONSTER", and more, "oh, honey, if you think that's bad, you better buckle in". I am a fan of Cole's, but that's not really the apprehension I have here with Sera.

I play the game in a pretty chaotic way. I like to push what people think is true about the world to see what happens. I like to take the skeptics approach on in-world beliefs and use everything as a learning opportunity, even if that comes with a risk. It seems like that is basically the opposite of what Sera wants, so I see us not seeing eye to eye a lot. It's not like I'm shocked she feels this way. Well, maybe a little surprised. I expect a lot of characters to react poorly to my play style, but I guessed Sera would be less up tight about it. That's more so just my expectation for her to fit the "rogue girl" stereotype, more like Isabela. It's not as if I don't think her reaction fits within the context, but it does make me wonder if we'll be able to get along. I'm not really against it being so, really. In fact, it's nice when a character doesn't fit expectation, in some ways.

I would be happy if Sera became more flexible over time, though. I know her interview says she's fairly untested in her beliefs and inexperienced. I think it'll be interesting seeing where she goes with that.

That is... so not the universal experience. I tended to Keep both Leliana and Sten at arm's length, but between them I trusted Sten more. Not on principle, mind you, but still.

I see nothing else to call a vast army of bloodthirsty conquerors who want to grind down the entire world until it fits into their incredibly narrow worldview.

I think IB's reaction is based on two things;

  1. Qunari cultural values, which place a lot of emphasis on the group and the community, and probably encourage getting along with the rest of the group, and your work as a group being as efficient as possible, and by extension discourage causing friction within the group.
  2. The fact that when you're a giant ass guy with horns and lots of huge weapons and know that you're really good at killing stuff and don't have much to be afraid of it's... difficult to look at this much smaller guy, who really comes across as just a nervous, socially awkward, inexperienced kid, and feel afraid of him, you know? :P  And maybe that Cole does not look particularly demonic. Sort of zombie-like, maybe, but not demonic.

But anyway. This is the Sera thread.

I think It'd be wise to stop the Qun conversation before it blows the thread.

...more like Isabela.

First impressions matter. Mine was of the tavern concept art, which screamed Isabela.

I'm going to guess her introduction in the game will be her helping people or fighting oppression or doing something clandestine for a super secret organization.

I dunno if I'd throw around the word purely evil for the Qunari, but I am definitely not a fan of a society who tries to convert everyone else through bloodshed, so there's that.

Continuing to dislike someone solely due to their metaphysical nature and not their behavior.

We don't even know if she'll dislike/distrust him the whole

And it makes perfect sense for Sera to feel that way towards Cole

I don't think Sera is a pariah for disliking Cole in particular, she just isn't generally trustworthy or reliable.

So someone who wants to help the common people from the Breach isn't trustworthy or reliable?

Not necessarily.

I don't think Sera's generally trustworthy or reliable from what we know.  That doesn't mean her heart isn't in the right place or she can't have the desire to do what's right for people.

My Inquisitor surely won't be trusting Sera right away..but the same can be said for most of the companions.

Other than Cassandra and Varric, I have no idea how trustworthy or not any of the companions will be.

Blackwall seems pretty trustworthy...at least, he's someone I could see my Inquisitor trusting easily at first.

There is the whole Grey Warden thing and they are a mystery to most people but the GW also have a pretty good rep at this point considering the Fifth Blight was only ten years prior to DA:I.

A sociopath vigilante connected to an international criminal gang who hates authority and only wants to help so she can keep "playing"? No. Not even remotely.

Uh... how dare we have an opinion about what Sera said?

oh , I don't have a problem with it at all! 8D

You can dislike it and I'm fine with it. I just think it's being taken far too harshly.

How do you figure she's a sociopath? That's not really a term I'd throw around lightly to describe characters we don't know anything about.

The info we have says Cole wants to help the common people during the breach, but plenty of people don't think he's reliable or trustworthy. A lot of people just don't trust that the companions don't have their own thing going on that wont gel with the PC agenda. And probably they will often be right. All the companions are likely only trustworthy and reliable if you're supporting the issues they're supporting.

He does seem like a reliable, down-to-earth kind of guy. I doubt his character will turn out to be that straightforward, though, and there are some seriously dodgy Grey Warden practices that have yet to be acknowledged in any of the games. I'm really looking forward to getting to know him and seeing what he has to offer a character.

Maria was gracious enough to provide us with the actual definition, and it fits to a tee. As it does for a lot of the characters in the setting, really, but that's neither here nor there.

You should try that with all the characters before completely writing them off

Hmm.  Am I the only one who finds Sera more interesting since learning she's got serious hangups about Cole?  I mean, certainly, calling anyone "it" is a rather shitty thing to do, but from a characterization standpoint I'm rather intrigued.  My previous impression of Sera was your fairly typical glib, roguish prankster personality, but the fact that she has a real, deepset fear of something is a real interesting addition to that mix, imo.  Makes me wonder if she has a past involving demons or, alternatively, she's never had much exposure to magical goings-on and supernatural things in general really freak her out.

Anyway.  We'll see if Cole can earn my trust...if so I'll just have to make everyone hold hands and do trust exercises, idk.

Well, Cole was pretty sympathetic in Asunder, and based on his motives there I doubt we'll have much trouble with him in Inquisition. None of the in-game characters have that insight, though, and it makes sense for them to be suspicious of him given his nature.

I don't completely write them off, I'm just not afraid of judging them either if that's what their descriptions merit. I'll obviously start from scratch when I meet them in-game, but until then I have just as much right to draw their apparent negatives to attention and put them in perspective as others have to talk them up and declare themselves fans.

Hmm. Not bad. I could have done without the glued-on hair, but the outfit is nice. The archery-appropriate wrist-guard is a really nice touch.
