Baggy. Big part of the soundtrack of my teens...

I liked those bands too. The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets were pretty good as well. It led into Brit-pop which was also a good period (says the Blur fan).

Is it weird that when I hear Cat I think of Mira Furlan? She's Croatian, not a French speaker, and you can hear that difference in the background accent, but there's something... I don't know... Maybe that both now live in a North American English speaking city?

-snip-

Am I going mad?

(By the way, I love Mira Furlan. I think she's a really talented actress. I mean, she's played lead roles in her second language...)

YES!  Thank you!  After listening to Cat's recording I was like, that really reminds me of something..but I can't put my finger on it.  Dalen!!!! Now I know.

Well Blur started off sounding pretty damn baggy-ish,

before developing their own sound up to and during the heyday of Britpop and then getting a bit too experimental for my tastes afterwards. Parklife will always be one of the defining albums of my life...

Yep their first album is straight up baggy. It's the second album "Modern Life is Rubbish" where the Brit-pop kicked in. I really only liked them from that first lp through "The Great Escape" and I saw them twice in that period (fantastic) but afterwards they abandoned the 60s and 70's influences and got more experimental and they lost me.

Some favorites. :)

Yup. That mirrors my experience, although I do like a few of their later songs such as "Coffee and TV" and "Song 2"...

This one is my absolute fave:

Woo-hoo!

A classic! Last I checked I could sing along to the falsetto harmonies in that song. probably related to why Serza thinks I sound young...

"This is a Low" is a fantastic track! That whole lp...must have played it nearly every day for a good six month period.  "Song 2" never grabbed me as much. Might have been because it was picked up here by the sports/jock crowd so hearing it during NFL games, on beer commercials, and I recall it as an ad for hockey games too well it rubbed me the wrong way a bit. I did like some of that album like "Beetlebum" but not all of it. That was the last Blur album I bought.

Love that song! Great band. They get pegged too much as a surf band when some of their best stuff had nothing to do with it.

*sorry...

I knew you were going to do that, and I knew I was probably spelling it wrong, but, truth be told, I just didn't' care enough to google it before I hit post.  Just wasn't a priority. I thought to myself, if I did this wrong I bet he corrects me.

Preparing you for the real world, where work can suck and you have to meet unrealistic demands....

Now sit down and pay attention lassy, or else you'll end up in the poor houses for lack of a good job!!!

actually just pay attention because learning is awesome and getting an education is a beautiful thing, regardless of the job you get.
