Yup, I can confirm, we have great food here. ^^

The year I lived in Italy was one of the best fed years of my life. I ate like a pig and yet I found I had lost over 30 pds when I returned! Might be because I walked everywhere I could at all hours. But I ate like they'd loaded a trough to my mouth!

Yep! Figure skating lessons. I'm very much a newb, but I adore it. And I get to wear those fancy white boots that the professionals wear!

Sounds absolutely thrilling!  ^_^ I haven't done anything professional and don't really intend to but just, skating around on the ice is very enjoyable. One of my favourite things to do.

She shot you? In the chest? With a crossbow? How are you still here?

It's been a long time since the crossbow was a weapon commonly used. Medicinal advances since the aprox. 500-700 years (I remember VERY clearly that the French used crossbows at Crécy in 1346, and still lost to the British Longbow) is a long time to advance medicine.

Also, those were proper crossbows back then. I doubt he got shot with anything remotely as high-poundage as the crossbows of old. Depending, the projective may also have been a lot less... damaging. Probably was also relatively clean, something that can't be said of the old ammunition crossbows used.

Yeah, that's a pretty standard practice for anyone who lives here, natives and foreigners alike.

Seriously though, every region has its specialties and every dish has a few variants, depending on who is cooking it, it's almost impossbile to not find something you like here. ^^

Well admittedly, many of those times I've carried a crossbow on a date, I've been tempted to use it. eta: Actually I think we shot bows one time. Trying to remember.

Actually Eirene, there's also a famous place in York called Betty's Tea Rooms, which is super-traditional British Tea Rooms that's really popular with tourists, but, as it was founded by a Swiss immigrant, they do a mean rösti...

Don't Italians always drink a little wine after lunch/dinner? That also helps with digesting, I hear. Or maybe it helps to remain healthy...?

I don't remember. The thing I do remember is that you need to drink like... not even an entire wineglass.

Now I'm imagining a date in which two of us go through the forest with crossbows and swords defending people from villains.

Not everyone and not always. Half a glass of red wine a day is good for your health though.

oh god, that really came out sounding differently than I meant. I was like talking about us hunting together, Robin Hood like. Or defending someone in bad situations.

which in context with your story doesn't quite work at all.

That's very true. There were variations across the regions I visited but it was all uniformly outstanding and not uncommon for a very big meal to be very cheap too. I still salivate over the memory of a tortellini con gorgonzola that I had in a Trat in Firenze. I can sense it's smell and texture and just how delicious it was a few decades later.

But what I really miss is the walking. It's not as fun in North America. "Oh a strip mall...wow...oh hey look a McDonalds...neat" as opposed to "I think that building facade might be Bernini or Michelangelo but regardless it's pretty cool!"

I did drink a lot of wine while there. I think it's a law or something. But I consumed a lot of it and it was outstanding.
