The Seven Stages of Cassandra being Straight:

1) Shock or Disbelief - No, Cass isn't straight.

2) Denial - They wouldn't pull another Morrigan and Varric's comment in DA 2 means nothing and it was obvious she had no interest in him in the film because it was a FRIENDLY kiss.

3) Anger - Why couldn't they have gone with all bi?! I bet if Sheryl had written this character, she'd have made her bisexual. It's like David wants to write romances for everyone *but* lesbians. Now I have to deal with a bunch of gloating straight men, fun times.

4) Bargaining - Why not make Vivinenne straight? Or Sera? Or Scribbles?

5) Guilt - I shouldn't have been so mean to David. This is what happens when I get my hopes up. Why can't I just appreciate what I have?

6) Depression - It doesn't matter. Just a stupid game. I'm just going to curl up on my bed and cry now.

7) Acceptance and Hope - *plays game* OMG, Sera is so cute! Is Vivienne hitting on me? What do I do?! Who do I choose?! I want both! Romance ALL THE WIMINS!

You win the Internet today, Maria. Well done.

Sera is the one character I'm most excited for in Inquisition. While she may not be romanceable for dudes like myself, I'm still planning on having her around for most missions(providing she's a good character.) I'm planning on having her romance my Dalish mage inquisitor.

You Know those times when your staring at a girl and you imagine your perfect life together and then you find out she's a lesbian...... Yeah. I was sad when I found out Sera doesn't like guys. P.S.(I didn't mean to offend any girls out there or anyone for that matter)

Gaider would probably disapprove and call it a "fetish," but I'm very glad Sera is at least romanceable for female players (and hopefully fellow elves) partly because I've been waiting on a f/f elf/elf relationship since Linu La'neral from Neverwinter Nights 1. I made a hardass female elven ranger in that game, and though she was into tough dudes like Daelan Red Tiger (the half-orc barbarian) and Aarin Gend the former slave (big muscular human). However, since the game was written with male protagonists in mind, the romance-able female companions had endearingly flirty lines for female players too. Linu, a sweet but clumsy elven cleric who was pretty much the Merrill prototype, complimented my outdoorsy ranger so much that I headcannoned they got together after the game. It's pretty silly, but I wanted BioWare to make another fantasy game where I could make another female elven protagonist, only this time officially romance a female elven companion.

In DA:O, both romance-able female companions were human. (-.-) In DAII, we got the elven romance option Merrill, but were forced to play the human Hawke. (BASTARDS!). Now, it looks like I can FINALLY romance a female elven companion with a female elven protagonist.

It's a very stupid, trivial desire to hold onto for all these years. After all, love knows no race. Knowing my luck, I'll probably "discover" that Sera's personality is not right for my Elven Inquisitor, or better suited for my Dwarven or Qunari Inquisitor (and with further luck, will be racelocked), some other companion is better suited for my Elfquisitor, or I won't like her/love some other companion way more, etc. I acknowledge a million things can go wrong. At the same time though, that indolent little part of me is thrilled to at least have the option I always dreamed of.

With that said, I feel extremely bad for men out there who might have wanted to romance Sera with a male character (BELIEVE ME, I know your pain. I STILL can't get over Morrigan not being romance-able for female Wardens), but these games have their ups and downs, I guess.

To be honest, I have little doubt that your elven Inquisitor will find a way to make it work. Sera seems to pretty much follow everything you enjoy except for an actual adherence to Alienage culture.

Taking OP requests!  What do you guys want me to add to the OP?  If you'd like more fan art, all I ask is that you PM me the links of the art you'd like to see on page 1.  I'll also transcribe the article about Sera as well if you all want.

I suspect that if Cassandra had been announced as a lesbian, you'd get just as many (if not more) straight men lamenting her loss and just as many lesbians hanging around the Sera thread expressing a desire to romance her.

It's difficult to say what 'gay women' want based on the forums because there are like... six of us? And it's not as though we represent gay female gamers in general, just lesbians who'll hang around the Dragon Age forum forever and talk about romance.

That's why I said 'I could be wrong' :P

I just base my assumptions from the forums and tumblr and net in general. Lesbians seemed to like Cass more than straight dudes (dudes liked DA2 Cass more so when people saw new Cass, most straight dudes called her manly and the lesbians wanted to marry her) so yeah... it's not just the six of us here. It's how the net acts in general.

As for outside of net world, i have no idea. I assume they don't visit the BSN forum, therefore they don't care about the romances. They only want to play the game and maybe finish it. :P

That said, if they announce Cassandra is straight, I'm going to cry.

Same.

Though i'm more in 'Acceptance and Hope' stage... i like all the ladies and still hope Cass is bi. ;P But if she's straight, i'll be sad then i'll shrug, move on and romance the rest of the awesome ladies.

But i'll still cry and eat lots of chocolates

I honestly like DAI Cassandra far more then DA2 Cassandra.
Though to be fair, I dislike most of the faces in DA2.

Is it weird that I thought Cassandra appeared to be wearing a lot of makeup in DA2?  It just seemed...off, given her character.  It's even stranger to me now that I've learned more about her history.

On a random note related to Sera: I love her shoes!  Nice practical boots for adventuring.

Spoiler

One of the few areas that I never connected with Leliana is the shoe thing.  It's probably on me I guess, since I never got too much into shoes or fashion IRL.

Same here. Cassandra in DA2 looks too generic, just another Female Hawke creation. While in DA:I she looks like she has her own unique face.

I don't see what your getting at. Orlais is into more keen on bisexual or lesbian/gay people than other countries.

Lore-wise, Nevarra is quite orlesian. They speak the same language, wear the same clothing and both place was populated by Ciriane tribes. Claiming to be a descendant of Drakon can win you the throne in Nevarra (see Tilus Van Markham).

It's just that Orlais has Chevaliers while Nevarra has Dragon Hunters and Death Mages...

I added her to team "Humans Are Crazy," which according to the devs would be an Elf/Iron Bull/Varric combo.  :D

Eh, it's not like anything changed in this regard with DAI.

The raccoon eyes just seem to be a thing in DA. See: Sera.

I wasn't just talking about the appearance of eyeliner (aka raccoon eyes) though.  I was referring to how Cass looked just like she was wearing dark grey eyeshadow and very dark lipstick.  I know that part of it was the engine that they used for DA2, but it always threw me off.

In Inquisition, the heavily shaded eyes don't bother me, since I can chalk that up to a quirk in the art and/or the Frostbite engine.  From the actual in-game footage, she doesn't look as made up and certainly doesn't look like she's wearing lipstick.  Both of which I approve of.

Just so I'm clear, I'm fine with the female characters wearing makeup if it suits them.  Vivienne?  Oh yes.  Cass and Sera?  It wouldn't seem like it would suit their characters.

I never did either, but I have no problem indulging Leliana on the matter.

I love Cass' new appearance. She gives me the feeling of beautiful in her own way rather than the feminine type beauty you see with characters like Leiliana.

I'm going to wait to see how it plays out first with Iron Bull.  He seems like he really doesn't fit the norm at all among his people, so I'll give him a shot.  The DA team keeps subverting my expectations of these characters left and right, and it's still another season away before the game comes out.

Besides, he would be correct: Humans really are crazy, in or out of Thedas.   :P

Oh, I didn't either.  I've done the same for a few of my female friends over the years.  I've actually given Leliana a lot of credit; while she does love her fancy shoes, her cameos in DA2 prove that she can put practicality over fashion when needed.

I'm just very happy that there is at least one of the ladies that isn't in heels or an otherwise overly complicated set of foot wear in our party.  Granted, the DA series has been a lot better about that then say, ME (really guys, stripper heels for EDI?) but I love having a character that has more or less similar tastes in armor/clothing to my own.  One thing that can take me out of a lot of fantasy and horror stories (video games, movies, ect) is the lack of any female character wearing practical footwear.

And I want a pair of Sera's boots to go with the Inquisitor Hat of Badassery™ for myself as well. :P
