If she wasn't Briala in disguise i would say that bioware writers needed to create a more unique character.

Just giving my two cents on the matter but I just read that you can choose not to recruit Cole, making him a optional companion so really IT IS a pointless discussion topic.

Also their appearance is quite different. Briala is an olive-skinned brunette whereas Sera is a light-skinned blonde.

I don't believe I have ever killed Vaughn, the game gave me no reason to do so.

Yup, I get that, that's why I said it's mostly a CF thing And it'd be indeed nice if your background lead to some branching in DAI, too.

Come to think of it, iirc my human noble let him go too, because there's no reason not to from her viewpoint, and the promised Landsmeet support seemed handy.

Unless you spoke with Soris, who is a prisoner in the dungeons and tells you what Vaughan did. I'd also like to see certain scenarios colored by the background of the Inquisitor, since perspective can change how one views the situation.

I had my human noble murder-knife Vaughn on my first unspoiled playthrough, and not knowing what went on during the City Elf origin. There is enough dialogue in the game both with other NPCs (like Soris) and with Vaughan himself when you meet him, to piece together that he is a complete bastard. 

 

My only regret is that you couldn't pin Vaughan's death on Loghain and Howe at the Landsmeet. After all, his corpse was in their dungeon. That could have been amusing, and useful.
