Being from York I prefer Smarties to M&Ms in my cookies...

*snip*

Guess who'll be in York on May 23/24?

Flu is an edge case, as it tends to be fatal only to the elderly and very young, and as discussed due to its high mutation rate it's tough to get a vaccine that is effective anyway. In Britain the vaccine is only offered as a matter of course to the elderly and those who are at risk in other ways.

As long as we're all agreed on the benefits of vaccination in general, then I'm happy. Anti-vaxxers do my head in.

Vaccination does work. But, I'm more worried about the fact that many different illnesses are quickly becoming antibiotic resistant or antibiotics have no effect on them. This is even more troubling when you think about the fact that antibiotic resistant strains are popping up in the worlds food supply and have been for awhile. Antibiotics are the go to cure for so much and the fact that they are quickly loosing their effectiveness is a cause for alarm for sure. The worlds powers should be doing everything they can to stop what can become a major problem before it gets remotely out of control.

Smarties taste like crap here....hence why M&M are better and taste like chocolate.....Smarties taste like Sugar ton and ton of sugar..... <_<

Me too! Smarties are way better than M&Ms!

*prepares for battle*

Well you two are more qualified than I to comment on Smarties in Canada, so I leave you to battle! :D I have to say that in my experience all mass-produced chocolate in North America tastes pretty crap compared to the European equivalent.

Oh my god, absolutely. Kids are growing up in an antibiotic bubble these days and getting prescriptions for every little cold.

When I was growing up, we'd eat carrots from the garden, dirt and all. Got some scrapes at the playground, had the sniffles. It was all whatever until it was serious and then we went to the doctor. In my home, a little dirt was good for you.

Give me some chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with some butter cream in the middle any day. Serve them with some coffee that has quality irish cream liqueur in it and I'm a very happy man.

Well I absolutely have to go the York Dungeon, that is a non-negotiation! <3 Also planning on going to the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. I am very excited.

Yup. It's a separate issue to vaccination but a really serious one. People demand antibiotics when they don't need them, too, which does nothing to help. I've heard of some interesting research into different new methods of making antibiotics, though, so hopefully new solutions can be found.

Just little chocolate bits coated in candy. They're crunchy and sweet and melty. <3

I was referring to the more common "sweet shop/candy store" type brands like Mars, etc. What is branded as the same thing can actually taste worse there than here! I'm sure you have some tasty higher-end brands, there, though.

Yeah they're like okayyy. But M&M's has peanuts, almonds, peanut butter, dark chocolate varieties and therefore: rules over Smarties.

The chocolate ones are vastly inferior, though, and they are the ones that are directly comparable.

Well if you're talking Hershey's or Mars offering's here *with a few exceptions* you're correct. Ghiradelli and some of the Trader Joes brand ones are outstanding (however only sold at Trader Joes but I sent a package of them to the UK once and was told some London children devoured the entire box *quite a lot* in 30 minutes).

Never buy edible products from Dollarama! They're great for decorations and cheap dishes and card/wrapping, but all their junk food is stale!

I'm one of those weird people who eats Zero and Whatchamacallit candybar's. So I really can't comment on things like m&m's or smarties.

Yeah never get your candy from the dollar store. To be honest my favorite chocolates are Droste, Ritter Sport, and Baci so that's Holland, Germany, and Italy right there.
