The only way, I think, is if you don't go to meet the mages first. If you don't go there, you never find out about the Vens and Alexius and have no reason to think anything bad might be afoot. So basically, Templars = ignorance.
The way I saw it, non-mage Aidan went there, and all sorts of crazy mage stuff was going on and he thought... I'm not getting any useful allies here. Better to come back here with a load of Templars after I've shut the breach.

Actually the same place, as I'm sure you knew. It's an area of London that gave its name to the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line. These days there's a place were people queue up to get a photo by a fake Platform 9 3/4 sign with a trolley "disappearing into the wall".
