My mum didn't like Sci-Fi and so stopped any of her offspring from watching it.

Oh man so sorry for you Light. Mine approved of Trek but did not really like it enough to watch it with me. However she did love Doctor Who and used to keep a poster of Tom Baker in her office. That show she still watches religiously.

My mum had some interesting TV allowance ideas when I was growing up.

When I was 16 she would change the channel when Sex and the City came on, but I was allowed to watch Depserate Housewives with her, which was so much worse!

It didn't have 'sex' in the title. That was probably the deciding factor. ;) That reminds me of stories of people who buy Japanese cartoons for their kids without checking first because they think 'hey, if it's a cartoon it must be for kids!'

The mildest case of this was someone who wanted to show Princess Mononoke to a 5 or 6 year old. It's quite violent, with decapitations and dismemberment and all that fun stuff. It's a good movie, but definitely not for little kids.

At 16 my mum basically let me watch anything. Don't really remember a time when my mum didn't let me watch something. Except Star Trek. I shall never forgive her for this atrocity. NEVER!!!!!!!

Or people who buy Grand Theft Auto for their kids and it's all fine if there's violence and prostitution, but you tell them it has swearing and it's all "Oh my god, how could you sell this filth to children?!"

Reading that, I immediately thought of Hentai.  Imagine that! The shock on the parents face when they realise their mistake!

This happens sometimes, because I have an xbone controller for PC, and the B button does both "Back" and "Energy Barrage"...

Inquisition Camp Person: "I have something for you Ser"

Quizzy shoots bolts of fire around the camp, setting tents on fire and scaring the nugs. Her companions are tense.

I don't know why I keep wanting to push B in those situations. I can just run along and ignore the poor camp leader.

And of course the answer is : ''we didn't. We sold it to you, an adult. If you let your children play it, you are to blame.''

But of course people don't want to hear that.

The Lord of the Rings one was pretty gory indeed. My parents were equally ignorant of the 'cartoons are not all made for kids' rule. They let us watch Akira and Lupin III quite young. We were traumatized. :P

Apparently we live in a day and age where parents are not responsible for properly raising their children, everyone else is.
