Not even close to "cold" around here, if you dress up properly...

As a rule of thumb, I hate time travel. Because it seems like no matter how well thought out and well executed it is there are far to many plot holes and inconsistencies for me to look past. I'd love to see plot devices such as time travel and amnesia simply go the way of the dinosaurs. Both are over used and inherently flawed in my eyes.

Yeah, I like the Templar route better too. I find the idea of a demon invading our mind scarier and more interesting than time travel. Time travel shows up for that quest alone and then it's never mentioned again. If it had been a recurring plot point, it might have been more interesting. Demonic possession is all over the place. It's interesting to get an idea of what mages put up with when they fall asleep.

I'm not sure how they could work in the time travel more. It was brought in to show what would happen if the Inquisition failed. Bringing it back as a plot device continuously might weaken the effectiveness it's initial introduction has. There's quite a bit of impact in seeing what happens to the world, to Leliana etc that might be diluted by repeated use. Right now I think they made the right decision to leave it there. Now that does not mean that I feel they tied up all the plots strands of that effectively or we would not be discussing what the issue was with Fiona.

Yup, also loved Cole's introduction going with the Temps, the idea of demons messing with your mind is far more interesting to me than time travel, still don't know why they would introduce this to the DA universe. It's so outta place.

"Mansplanation", though? Why are you using that word? What has this got to do with gender politics? It's certainly not my intention to talk down to you here. I've great respect for your intelligence and contributions to this thread, and that's why I asked what your problems were with the plot. I wanted to know them. I thought we were having an interesting discussion, that's all. You might be used to getting into horrible fights in other threads, but that's not what I do. I'm sorry if you took my words that way. That wasn't my intent.

I'm struggling to put my thoughts into words, and I'm not sure how much it's my place to say anything. However from my perspective Eirene laid out some well reasoned problems she (and by proxy, I) had with the time travel plot, and the response has been fairly dismissive. One point (of three) was taken and disagreed with while the others weren't acknowledged nor was the general thrust of the argument discussed.

The actual disagreement hinges on not interpreting a scene the same way, which is fine I guess, but as basically the whole of a negative response it feels as I said, dismissive - to me at least.

But I'm not Eirene, most of you can probably tell.

Yes. I re-read my post and I see how it could come across that way. I didn't mean it to, but I was writing a quick response on a forum while doing other things. I didn't have time to give her response its due. It would literally take me an hour, as I am incapable of writing that much without editing and re-editing. Suffice to say that I appreciate the effort and thought behind her post, even if I'm not sure I fully agree with its contents.

I'll re-iterate that I find Eirene to be one of the most interesting contributors to this thread, and I always enjoy reading her posts. Again, sorry Eirene if I seemed dismissive. I didn't intend to.

A disagreement, regardless of how it happens, still shouldn't be turned into a gender issue, though.

There was that one side mission that involved time manipulation with the Venatori and demons lol

Well, I wouldn't say it's out of place just not something you would see in the Southern part of Thedas.

I can definitely see time manipulation being a thing in like Tevinter and maybe Rivain, just like how we would be seeing more necromancy if we was in Nevarra

True, though in Tevinter it wouldn't be on the scale Alexius did (which would be a good thing lol)

Just a few further words on Eirene's other points, then (and she admits in her post that the key point to her is the Fiona one).

There is so much inference about the power of Alexius's time magic there, but it's based on so little actual data. Yes we know that he used it several times by the time the dark future comes, but that was over the space of years, and we also know that it messes things up more badly each time he uses it. I don't know how much time he truly had to prepare for/mess up the inquisitor's plans, be they in Redcliffe or Therinfall. Basically what I'd say is that we can't know how much chance Alexius had to interfere with the Inquisition's plans, as we just don't know how the magic works.

In the end though, time travel is plot-hole central almost by definition, and you do generally have to just put doubts aside and go with it, but I thought that as time travel plots go, this one was pretty good, and as I said I loved the emotional impact of it. I didn't feel that with the Envy demon.

Edit: Fair point about how Alexius escaped, although I can imagine him somehow using the confusion over the Inquisitor and Dorian's disappearance to get away and regroup. I'm assuming that he still had forces in the castle somewhere.

well viv claims time magic is generally impossible but not "perception of time" so its not out of place i agree with ya.
