I've gone solo when I went farming for schematics. They were just getting in the way.
They talked too much eh, slowing you down. xD

That's assuming. If you didn't allow the other rogues to join, and Varric disapproved enough to leave, you would be stuck without a rogue.
Ok but only in that scenario which is unlikely to be a majority for most players.
No cause Varric is only critical to the story before Skyhold. After Skyhold he really isn't useful unless you like him enough to use him a lot. But he isn't. If he left after the Fade part of the story what do you lose? At that point nothing if you have Sera and Cole already.
Dude. You can choose not to recruit Sera and Cole.
Thus the point. BioWare is protecting silly players from themselves. The people who would complain they can' t open stuff after kicking out all their rogues.
Have any of you left Skyhold without a full party for curiosity? I haven't done this yet, didn't know it was possible.
Yeah, just me and my girl a few times. Mostly when visiting Val Royeaux, but even when I visited The Hinterlands during endgame phase (and I do my Silverite/Dawnstone farming with just Sera and Inky)

But what if you don't like Sera or Cole? What if you missed the opportunity to recruit them? Regardless of whether Varric is critical beyond a certain point (the same could technically be said of Cassandra as well) you still need the capability to have a full party.

This just means that you have to be mindful of the choices you make, but the difference here is negligible compared to Origins. In that game, you can avoid rogues altogether, and you have to deal with the traps and trip wires that are literally everywhere.
Ok, ok.
Though I would be more than okay if they let us kick everyone out. It would make my power-crazed quizzie so much more believeable.

You would not be able to complete the grey wardens quest "Memories of The Gray" or the Elven temple in Emerald Graves but you could complete the main quest easily a point which is lost on Poodle and Cap.
Varric's not even essential to contact Hawke. Once the word gets out about what happened at Haven, I can quite see Hawke deciding to seek out the Inquisition independently.

It's not lost on me. I just think that BioWare is catering to the lowest common denominator.

I hate the bear traps. They are just the biggest inconvenience going. I remember one random encounter, basically the area if filled with them and unless you have a Rogue, you continue to just step on them.

You made Cole leave, Cole he's so gentle. :'(
I've made Cole leave once and not recruited him twice!
I am a monster. For science!

Run, run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man! Mwahahahaha!

Well you're right that people would ****** at not being able to open a door in the Graves or the Fallow Mire and probably create reams of posts about that so you're right that Varric is locked in to protect the developers from idiotic complaining.

I doubt that is the reason. It's more like for ease of accessibility. Get to experience the most amount of the game with the minimum amount of characters.

Exactly.
BioWare knows their audience is full of whiners who don't understand in game consequences. I mean, look how many people were upset about their not being enough halls to open their doors in halamshiral.

Oh that I highly doubt. If that was the case they wouldn't have bothered making 9 companions.
Exactly.

People were upset about that? I worry for the future of gamers...

Fair point. It occurs to me though that the mage class is the most prominent when it comes to completing quests in this game. For all of the darkspawn missions, a mage is required to seal the exit routes from the Deep Roads, and is the only one that can deal with the beacons in the Fallow Mire.

Why does any game have more characters than are needed? To make the game even more enjoyable. You don't have to experience these characters, but they are there for those who do.
