Well that's good, then. haha. I just feel bad because it's kinda off topic, but I guess they'll get it out of their systems soon enough. xD
I don't get it out of my system.

Carry on, then. I ran away scared. ![]()
I'm always scared of heated debates turning into flame wars. But that one seems to be going along pretty well. I just don't really know enough on the topic to contribute.
I hope she doesn't dislike the Dalish.

Pfft if she does then I really am going to be forever alone in this game. I don't get that impression though.
I can't wait to have Sera in my party!...but I would also like to bring Cole along too. I have a feeling what's it going to be like already...
Cole: Stop it...
Sera: Stop wot?
Cole: Quit it!
Inquisitor: What's going on back there you two?

Inquisitor: *sigh*
I don't see Sera disliking any group, really.
I hope she doesn't dislike the Dalish.
I actually see more of a potential issue with the elven Inquisitor and Solas than with Sera, given the Solas interview where the elven remark was made. I could be wrong. I'm not too certain what views or ideas Sera might have about elven culture or the Dalish, but it would be nice to have some common ground with her. While she isn't a romantic possibility for my male elven Inquisitor, it would be nice to have a friend who can understand some of the trials and tribulations that one faces as an elf in the human dominated societies of Thedas.

I think it's up to the Dalish whether people like them or not. It seems like all elves would love to get to know them, but Dalish can't help from being jerkwads in general. Unless it's your Warden or a small handful of others.

Yeah, I'm sure the human lords and lynch mobs running the the Dalish off land would love to get to know them, or the templars hunting them down for their mages. Are you honestly surprised the Dalish anticipate the worst from outsiders when The Warden and Hawke are exceptions to the rule?

I'm talking about elves like Sera. I don't care about humans.
edit: I think how they treated Briala really sums it up.

I don't think the Dalish are necessarily hostile to elves who venture close to their camp. Zevran is the son of a Dalish mother and an Antivan elf from the city, and he befriended members of the Sabrae clan, even though he is technically a city elf. Aneirin was rescued by Zathrian's clan when he was left for dead, an elven mage from the Circle found sanctuary with Ariane's clan, and Pol was welcomed into the Sabrae clan.
Of course, some elves from the city have never even met the Dalish, as we know from the Denerim Alienage. I'm not sure whether or not Sera has even encountered the Dalish.

Clan Caricature Virnehn? I can see Briala having some issue, but if Sera was a member of the FoRJ, she might have been residing primarily in Ferelden.

My point is, if they think of themselves as "seperate people" from City Elves and if they do things like the clan in TME, then they are their own worst enemy.
City Elves otoh are dejected, humble, and think of the Dalish like some fantasical society of badasses and legends. If anyone of them met a Dalish, then they'd treat them like when you meet a really successful or famous person. It's up to the Dalish to be friendly. The average CE would already make the effort.

They are a separate society from the city elves, with different cultural and religious viewpoints. For all we know, the player may be the first Dalish who Sera encounters.

Some Dalish certainty thumb their nose at the city elves, but some city elves also disparage any elves who try to live outside of the Alienage as "flat ears", and even view the Dalish as savages. It goes both ways with how small-minded some of them are in both communities.

My thoughts exactly.

It's not merely seperate "society" to them. The clan in TME didn't even believe the CE are worth considering as their "people". They'd would rather turn their backs on any suffering or cause the city elves would talk about. They would value their own little nest and their fixation on the past than the world around them or the present.
I think any Dalish clan like that will die off, just like the ones in TME. Go ahead and make excuses for it though. I'm not stopping you.

Clan Virnehn summoned a spirit, despite the Dalish traditionally prohibiting using any magic that involves spirits. "Unlike other spellcasters, Dalish mages do not use any magic involving spirits, as they believe all spirits are dangerous." (page 104 of WoT) Given how they don't adhere to Dalish doctrine, I'm a little confused as to why you think most of the Dalish would behave like Clan Virnehn.

I'd be surprised if there were many other clans who emulated the non-Dalish behavior of Clan Virnehn.

There would be many different types of clans, of course. I'm just saying.. taking that route will get you nowhere. I think the burden is on Dalish to always keep that in mind. The CE mentality is more likely to be fascinated by a Dalish instead.
Sometimes it might just be isolated segments of a clan as well. Like Velanna. Her clan didn't want her around. She was "poisonous" to the group. She has a lot to learn, even after you recruit her. The way she treats that City Elf couple in Amaranthine sucks, for example.

One Dalish clan act like jerks in one book, so you assume all Dalish clans all across Thedas act exactly like them?
That seems like a pretty small reference pool and a very hasty generalization to me.

No. I'm just saying there's a lesson to be learned from that. It's a part of DA lore now, and I'm allowed to use it.
And there is a general pattern in the Dalish mentality to point arrows first. To see themselves as always the victim and to be on the defense. This goes for anyone in real life who always reminds themselves of how they've been victimized. It's not a good way to approach the world.. because sometimes you end up snapping on the undeserving if you think like that.
Look at my avatar though btw.. I'm a Dalish fan myself (although that avatar isn't exactly Dalish, I guess). You don't need to come to their defense. I'm just trying to be fair, looking from the outside.
Dalish clans are all different , they rarely met each others anyway.
Some clans trade with humans , and live nearby humans , others kill humans on sight and live like bandits.(Just like some tal Vashoth , they attack trading route)
About Sera , I think she probably don't care about the Dalish.
They do nothing for city elves after all.And it seems to me if she had some great ideals about them , she would leave everything behind and go find them.
I can imagine her being more annoyed by their attitude .
