I set up nagios because no one else was doing it, and I wanted us all to be able to check on everything quickly. On the old server (nagios client), this worked fine.

 

On the new one, nagios web interface is all

Check Command    check_http!"-H hostname.here"
Plugin Output    Connection refused

 

But from the command line on the nagios server

/usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_http -H hostname.here

HTTP OK: HTTP/1.1 200 OK - 297 bytes in 0.003 second response time |time=0.002627s;;;0.000000 size=297B;;;0

 

So it's getting there. When I google this, everything I see is assuming check_http didn't work.. but it does.

 

Several of us have been other issues in our own areas, so it's possible my brain has done all it can do today and there's something simple going on here. All the other services nagios is watching are green.

 

I think that is the most un-Sera thing I've ever posted.

Hmm. I wonder if knowledge of this has been dumped under three years of solid worthlessness of the rest of my four years in high school (Cisco was a part of my first year) or if it never was there.

It's probably me being stupid.

 

Although... Since it's a new server, didn't a version change, with something going slightly differently, as may happen while swapping builds?

 

Also, as I understand, this is something akin to a ping command, so it gets through to the server, but not back...?

 

 

Edit: I did a little research on Nagios. Being an open-source network monitoring system designed for Linux, it would not be a part of any of the courses I undertook. Only Windows in those.

There was one line in a config file that still had the old IP matched with the new hostname. Some of the services were showing green because they're still up on the old machine, but it was going to the wrong IP the whole time.

 

Yes, it's working now.
