That's an interesting take on the scene, I never thought of it that way.  Why though?  To make an impression on the Inquisitor?  She hadn't even met him/her yet, and her own position and authority is far beyond that of the "herald of Andraste", who had just been denounced by the Chantry and branded a heretic.  I don't think she needed to, but then again she does seem like the sort of person who likes to make an entrance, and her intro was by far the most memorable out of all the characters..

Exactly that. It gives Vivienne an opportunity to show off her control over magic (admittedly impressive) and the kind of influence she can wield (no one tries to stop her). With this set up she is essentially showing off the benefits of having her as an ally.

More like she saw an opening to make dibs on the Divine Throne..period . the churhc actively denounce the Herald...and she know the Inquisition is and will be in power.....supporting it get her closer and anything in her way will be swept...

 

Its a strategic move...a good one . In a chess game..she is the Knight...
