Understandable.

As far as names, any particular reason you chose those names?

I'm curious since you usually have some RP reasons.

These ones are actually from a list of pop culture fighters/warriors/soldiers.

Anya means gracious and Esri means to help the people. But I really chose them for their vowel sounds. I just think they're pretty and quick without being too sharp.

Hmmm...Esri sounds like a Paragon (which, IMO, would make it hilarious if she went Renegade instead) and Anya strikes me as an Infiltrator.

I say Anya because space rogue ftw.

Infilitrator sounds like such a cool class. Is it fun or finicky?

I'm still leaning towards Esri. :P

I think after 5 playthroughs, I'm getting burned out by DA:I. I'm going to finish off Corypheus tonight (hopefully) and download Mass Effect.

I'm sorry, I know I'm abandoning my Sera romance. :(

How's that even possible?

The game was released just a few months ago and each playthrough takes about over 50 hours.

I had 12 days off at Christmas break? And I don't have many hobbies outside of work...

Infiltrator is based around sniping although the classes only really become different in ME2.

Considering I'm an awful shot this is probably not for me. :P

When me and my guy friends play halo, if I see someone in my vicinty I spray bullets as I spin around, hoping to god I kill someone. Most times I waste all my ammo.

See I can snipe and not much else in shooting games.

Adept may be more your thing then, although the cooldown times are a killer early on.
Think of it like the ME version of Rift Mage.

Hrm. But do I want to be a biotic... Can you be human and biotic?

I know, Soldier is the most boring class to play in Mass Effect but for this particular instance, I'd advise you to take Soldier. It lets you use Assault Rifles, so you don't have to line up every shot. You can stay at a decent range. You are pretty tanky. In ME2, it is also the only class that lets you carry every type of weapon so there, you have the possibility to learn how to use other weapons, without giving up the ones you are more comfortable with using.

In Mass Effect, you are always human. And yes, you can be a biotic.

Haven't I seen Lexi post pictures of her Asaris? Or is that like MP playthroughs? Or is it pure rumour I've heard you can play as other races?

I was definitely considering it. :)

Those are only in MP. Single-player is just human, just Shepard.

And I vote for Anya.

Ah. I'm actually okay with that. Sometimes I like being just a regular human. :)

It's all right, I suppose.

As far as classes go, you should be fine if you roll with a biotic through each one of the games, at least on your first time out. Biotics were stupidly OP in ME1, they were equally OP on low difficulty in ME2, and in ME3 they were okay I guess. You also won't have to adjust your playstyle much between games; an Adept in ME1 doesn't play fundamentally different from an Adept in ME2 or ME3.

By comparison, Soldier/Infiltrator in ME1 were all about Immunity-spam tanking, but in ME2/3 changed into high-damage cover shooters. Vanguard in ME1 was a Barrier tank and in ME2/3 became the chargebot monster we all know and love. Sentinel was kinda useless in ME1 and became a tank/CQC class in ME2/3. Engis evolved a bit between games, with the addition of drone powers and the Sabotage nerf, but the power spam aspect stayed relatively constant.

Good to know. So.. in comparison to a standard mage what do biotics do exactly? Like are they damage spell slingers or are they healers? What kind of damage can they do?

It sounds like I'd prefer the soldier build in ME2/3 than 1...

Heals in ME1 are based on a finite number of medpacs. Health also regenerates very slowly over time. Each character gets shields as well, which regenerate more quickly. There isn't really a healer class. Adepts are damage/crowd control; they generally rely on immobilizing/damaging enemies by lifting them off the ground or sucking them into the air with a miniature black hole. Since they have the Barrier power, they also have good survivability. Adepts using Lift and Singularity do stupidly large amounts of damage, to the point where it is usually a waste of time to use a firearm past the early game; once you have most of your powers, you're good to go. Health packs are available in the world as a standard pickup in random crates.

Heals in ME2 are nonexistent. Both health and shields regenerate rapidly. Health packs are chiefly useful for reviving downed squadmates. Unlike Dragon Age, the player never directly controls squadmates (although she can order them around) so if Shepard ever goes down, that's game over and a reload. Late in the game, the player can research upgrades to health packs that have them restore Shepard and her companions to full health and/or barrier/shields. Health packs can be recovered in the field, again, but if the player has a full health pack inventory she gains 100 credits instead of a health pack. Again, there is no healer class.

Heals in ME3 are kind of there. It's basically the same as the ME2 system, except the health bar is split into five distinct chunks; health regenerates 'within' each chunk, but if a chunk disappears entirely the only way to regenerate it is to use a health pack. Like ME2, the player is rewarded for not using health packs; instead of credits, however, she gains experience. There is still no healer class.

You are a bastion of knowledge! I am so glad I asked. :) Mini blackholes sound useful.

Don't really remember they're abilities of the top of my head; probably because I played Soldier most of the time. Soldier is certainly the easier class to get your head around because all you have to do is point and shoot. You can run through an entire game without having to use your abilities.

Also, there is no designated support type role. All classes are designed to attack enemies. You can't lay down barriers or anything like that for your teammates. Healing is done using MediGel, a resource found typically in marked containers (as you progress through the game, you will realise what these look like) and you can only carry so many.

I kind of like to play my first playthrough blind, unless I'm really having trouble. I know how silly that is.

I'm playing PC, but if I can get xpadder to work, I'll be using my laptop as a console. HDMI'd to a big screen and a logitech f310 xbox controller.
