That's the other thing... I think that after Goscinny died, the English versions actually became superior, as the translators wrote better jokes!
Goscinny was a true word smith and wickedly clever. No offense to Uderzo, but it's like a 'book of useful phrases for tourists' stepping in for 'Le Grand Robert' and 'Le Petit Robert' together (an encyclopedia and a dictionary, respectively.)
The comparison hurts. Sill, the translators still have to contend with the basic plot.
