Anyway Marvel has always re-written their characters or toyed with alternate timelines. I have zero problem with this. Wait though till you get a female Doctor Who or Star Trek reboot with a female Kirk (hey why not? "Jessica Kirk") they'll  do it at some point and the tears and rage will be hilarious.

Agreed. She's just my personal choice right now after her turn in "Sherlock" and "Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond." But as far as I am concerned the Doctor can regenerate as anybody. I don't particularly care about their gender, race, sexual pref, etc as long as they can do it justice and with panache!

Personally I have no problem with a female Doctor as long as it's the right person for the role - same as with the male actors, strangely enough.  I've seen people say ridiculous things to the effect of "but a woman could never have the same personality attributes as a male Doctor - it only works because he's a man!" but they're clearly idiots, or haven't heard of Romana, or both.

It's funny how many people I encounter who've never watched old Who so Romana is a unknown quantity to them or that Leela protected Baker's doctor from many a villain with her physicality. Loads of idiots or trolls though but I suspect they won't be listened to when the time comes.
