No...that can be all you. ![]()
It's possible. The flask of fire + thousand cuts combo is just ridiculous. Fitting that Sera is so eager to fight dragons.
* puts poo in bag* thats what i thoughtNo...that can be all you.
Sorry I really did mean no offense. I meant for you to tell me why you thought she was a character with depth and complexity (not just divisive.) I'll sum her up in three sentences. Little people are the best. Nobles aren't. Disagree with me about mythal and we're done.
BTW, I'm prepared to be wrong (most of my life is finding out I'm wrong.) I came here to learn what makes a good character.
Oh, there's quite a bit more about Sera than that.
She cares about the little people: that's her main motivation.
She has trouble processing new information: We see her reject things that don't fit into her world view (revelations at the Temple of Mythal)
She has trust issues: she doesn't jump into a relationship until she feels 'sure' about the Inquisitor.
She is very loyal to her friends and her lover: she gets very defensive when Vivienne criticizes her relationship with the Inquisitor. She defends Blackwall after the reveal.
She is direct: seen everywhere!
She does not take people being direct with her well: her interactions with Vivienne especially show this. Can happen with the Inquisitor too.
She likes to have fun: Pranks quest.
She doesn't think things through: Recruiting mission. Verschiel March.
She lacks empathy: Seen with Cole and Solas a lot.
She is afraid of magic: Take her into the Fade and see.
She has issues with Elf stereotypes: Ominipresent.
She does not like to be judged: Banter with Vivienne, Solas and Cassandra shows this.
She is judgmental: Same as above.
She has trouble expressing her emotions: She tends to act rather than talk. That tackle hug after her nightmare is a good example.
She is not well educated: her unique vocabulary is a way to compensate for that.
She has a good understanding of how 'the system' works: 'Nobles need a boogeyman.' She knows what happens when nobles have a problem with 'little people'. A convo with Cassandra yields some interesting info too. 'What do you think a stable boy sees when he looks at you?'
She likes big women: her reaction to meeting a female Qunari Inquisitor: 'You're well fit! *clears throat*.

Thanks for the answer Basement Cat. I think it might be possible for us to both be right. You've painted a detailed picture of Sera. I painted a broader one. Both might allow us to identify her in a crowd. I didn't say she wasn't well drawn or detailed. I tried to say, as written, she wasn't complex or very deep. Perhaps I have a preconceptions about deep that need to be abandoned. (I take deep to mean wise, reflective, possessing the ability to learn.)
*Still prepared to be wrong*

That is one definition of deep, and Sera indeed does not fit that one. Except for the ability to learn part. She can learn, but it takes a while.
The definition I was working from was 'deep' as in 'complex', 'believable', 'relatable'. Sera is not a shallow character. She has likes, dislikes, qualities and flaws.
There aren't many characters who are both deep and reflective in this series in general.
Painting characters in broad strokes isn't doing them any favors. They all look shallow that way.
Cassandra: Wants to restore order. Quick temper. Very religious.
Blackwall: Wants to protect the weak from the strong. Hangs out in the stables.
Iron Bull: Spy. Loves sex. Loves booze.
Solas: Hangs out in the Fade all the time. Likes to study history.
Vivienne: Loves power. Loves fashion. Lectures everyone.
Dorian: Loves fashion. Is arrogant. Is a rebel.
Cole: Wants to help. Reads people's minds. Can make people forget about him.
Varric: Writes books. Annoys Cassandra. Has a crossbow named Bianca.
There is more to all those characters than that. The surface is just that: the surface. They're also all able to learn. Some of them might not be willing to however. That's a key difference.
Josie romance screams traditional male/female gender roles which is why I can't romance her.
Personally I think that was her writer's intention, but to show it as a way that even a lesbian couple can have one also

(I got rid of your rest of quote for space reasons.)
I think this is what I'm missing and would be grateful for your insight. What does Sera learn?

Pretty much what I was trying to say and failed at doing so. My insomnia is kicking my a** and trying to piece together what I getting at was not easy. lol
"[DA]: Luke, let’s talk about Sera. She seems to value friendship above all else. What is it about the Inquisitor that makes her want something more?
[LK]: By various turns of nature and nurture, Sera is out of phase with the factions that could have been her comfort. In her experience, they don't want what she is, they want her to be what she "should" be, because that's more important than what she feels or how she taught herself to find strength. So she's ready for that. She has arrows.
But then along comes your Inquisitor, and she's different. And Sera joins because your character is a window into things she has questions about. But maybe you also make the Inquisitor fun and stick it to people who deserve it, and maybe there's still fighting but it's about new things and she likes new. But what knocks Sera for a loop is when it turns out the Inquisitor needs her; when (perhaps despite yourself) your Inquisitor essentially joins her, and Sera realizes how much she needs that. And that's not nothing.
[DA]: Given Sera’s mischievous nature, is there any risk of the Inquisitor’s breeches winding up on a flagpole at Skyhold?
[LK]: If Sera is really a match for your Inquisitor, the plan would have been for you to distract the advisors so Sera could hang Cullen's breeches, but Sera hangs your Inquisitor's instead because she likes thinking about the Inquisitor better. And then there is chasing and yelling that is actually laughter.
[DA]: How would you describe Sera's romance in a nutshell?
[LK]: Everything is complicated. Sera is fighting to keep it simple, and maybe (during breaks from solving every problem ever) the Inquisitor needs that too. Together, in their own just-as-complicated way.
Sera doesn't fit the tone of every Inquisitor. She isn't meant to. But the ones she does? "Optional" my foot. She's vital."

Play a female mage, she learns to trust you and that the Circle might not be the best idea.I think this is what I'm missing and would be grateful for your insight. What does Sera learn?
Not sure if someone posted it already.
