Would you agree with me or not that Sera's generally upbeat demeanor tends to vanish whenever elven issues are brought up that she can't just dismiss?

I've been wondering what would lead an elven Inquisitor to romance her, since Sera kind of needs to be pushed into that, and her general charm seems to fade when it happens.

Everyone knows that Superman can't beat Batman with prep time.
(Not sure which is more annoying tbh)

we all know batman can take out the JL... he's done it before. So its not really a contest

Personally I felt like Sera's arc was about her getting solid feet on the ground. The world being a mess messed her up, sure, but she was pretty messed up and confused about the world and where she fit in it way before the Breach. The Inquisiton offers her a place where she can finally find solid ground and maybe start making sense of things.

People act like big life changes should change you, but that's not really true. Horrible or big things can happen to you, and if you don't have a solid foundation, often you end up digging even deeper into what little certainty you have left. Sera can't change radically because she's scared, and she doesn't have a way to deal with those fears. But she doesn't run away either, she sticks it through and that in itself is indicative of the possibilitiies she has IMO.

So I do think Sera can grow and mature, now that's she's got a place that is comfortable and safe for her, but I really feel like if she'd started undergoing massive character growth in the story and timespan we had, it wouldn't ring as genuine to me.

True. And then he revealed the backup plan to his backup plan and ugh...

Batman with prep time might well be the most annoying thing in comics.

her tone does get a bit rough with big elven issues... or if any particular belief is forced in her face.

My mine it was simply why not and one of them was devout. And they believed in "cant help who you love"

So... I made a dwarf. Her name is Solvi Cadash. I decided that she's going to ally with the Templars, so I had to invent a backstory. In my head, she was the daughter of a Cadash who had broken away from the carta and was trying to live an honourable life. Her family happened to get in the way of a fleeing apostate and he killed her parents. Templars were hot on his heels and, at least in her head, they saved her. As an orphan, she had little choice but to return to her family and become involved with the carta. She of course dislikes mages, and resents being involved in supplying them with lyrium, but that was the hand she was dealt. She's therefore quite angry with the world and short with people, even though she has a good heart.

She's going to have to romance, Sera, isn't she?

-snip-

Most Dwarven names in DA seem to be Norse-inspired, and I found Solvi in a list of Norse names. It apparently means "from the house of strength" which seems appropriate for a warrior. She has Sumalee's voice. Yes... I made another redhead. Sue me. :P

Heh, short with people.

(Sorry, easily amused. She cute though.)

This, I can understand. What I don't quite understand is what leads people to romance her in her current state of immaturity.

I mean, I want you to give me a reason I can agree with, largely because I really don't like Josephine's romance (I like Josephine personally, but the romance just annoys the hell out of me). But... while I can see my qunari PC just living for the moment with her and finding a wonderful companion that way, I'm having quite a hard time seeing how any elf who remained loyal to the Dalish would be able to romance her.

I can't particularly offer you a reason there because I can't get myself to romance her with an elf either, tbh. :(  I looove her with my Adaar, it's such a great romance, they're so cute together, it's delightful and amazing, but I've run two Lavellan's and neither one went for Sera.

It seems like most of the people here who have romanced her with elves aren't particularly big on the Dalish or their religion or they are playing an atheistic character or one that has an arc that turns to doubt/distancing themselves from the Dalish, so they don't run into any problems, but when I play Dalish I like to be Dalish as heck.

Maybe if Crim sees this she can speak to it? I know she does the elfy-elf too and she did it with Sera.

Nah, Sera is better off with a woman who's 100% honest to her.

Sera gets very hesitant when you hit on her as elf. A lot of maybe's.

Okay I logged off then realized I strongly disagreed with something I said. "That wintery is so wrong," I thought to me.

It's not that Sera lacks empathy. She feels a great deal for a lot of perfect strangers. She helps people sometimes even when there is no reward forthcoming, and she can be enraged when innocents are harmed.

But she has trouble with interpersonal relationships, with reaching outward and understanding. More specific.

lying can be healthy to a extent i never said it was fool-proof but even the most honest relationship has some half truths. Sometime if your partner is having a breakdown its easier to just let them go at it and "enable" their bs til they calm down.

Just my experiance with my partners

Maybe I'll persevere with the qunari playthrough, then. For now.

It's only really an issue when elfyness comes up. As far as getting onto the romance track that mainly happens when you first meet her, and when you try to discuss elves with her. Otherwise you still get the generic 'how pretty are you' sort of lines that indicate she is actually interested*.

*I assume you have to flirt once to unlock those because the game is so conservative it hurts on that front now.

For me, Sera did change, but those changes had nothing to do with mythal or dalish beliefs, and more to do with finding a home, discovering hope and acceptance and friendship.

This is an important point.

To me, the fact that most things were in varying shades of brown meant the game appeared dull and boring, not 'gritty'. YMMV.

Pretty much, there's more to art direction than making everything the colour you think matches the emotion you're conveying. There were parts that worked I think, like Wilds, but they didn't have enough contrast with everything else.

Bingo, I myself am not big on the Dalish. Now city Elves are a different thing all together I can talk about them all night. My problem with the Dalish is that they exalt their history and ancestors without knowing the full story. Sure, they get some stuff right but they also make some pretty big mistakes as well.

Edited: Also Dwarves > Elves ;)
