Poodle is right on this one. In the UK you don't generally get paid to recycle as a private individual. Local councils take away recyclable goods as part of their waste collection service.

Edit: And you are expected to separate the recycling yourself.

What was that?

So you can't take them on your own to an eco centre and get reimbursed?

We also have the city take our recycling, but that's more for papers and plastics. Bottles you can put in a recycling bag, but they'll think you're ridiculous and they'll probably claim your bottles for themselves.

Nope. It's considered a civic duty to recycle.

Lame. Here in the States it's a pretty easy way to make some money. You do need to save up a decent amount of cans or bottles to make the trip worthwhile though.

Bottle drives are a huge fundraiser in my city.

Groups will go around neighborhoods and ask people to donate their bottles.

All I can offer is something like this:

*snip!*

Or this:

*snip!*

If I had the money, I'd offer all the regulars a free meal at the eatery of their choice. There's quite a variation in tastes here, so that would seem like the best option...

aw, good uncle! cookie for you!*gives cookie*

You'd be surprised how many people can't understand this. I worked as a collector for a week over Christmas 2013 and it was ridiculous how many people didn't sort it. Technically, the collectors don't even have to take it if it's not sorted because of several reasons.

1) The truck blocks the road and more time spent sorting it is more time spent blocking other people.

2) Anything can be in the recycling. One person whilst I was working there was stabbed by a needle hidden in the box. Luckily, he was okay.

In the car park of my apartment block there are bins for paper, glass and cans/plastics. In my town there's also a council facility where you can take big items such as TVs, white goods and furniture so it can be recycled as far as possible.

We have those too. For paint cans and TVs and all sorts of electronics. We just call them eco-centres here. We also have bins for clothing and books outside some of our shopping malls that get picked up for donation, which are next to the recycling bins for cardboard and other such items.

In moderation sure. Go have the burger, eat the big chocolate cake, have all the coffee.

I just don't advise drinking something that cleans toilets better than commercial toilet cleaners.

I'm not really a fan of that whole "you only live once" concept.

It seems to depend on the texture. If it's been cooked until it's almsot mush you get a bit of a green tinge, but if it's raw then no.
