A close shave, given Weekes'... record with lesbians.

Sheryl: I'm not doing another queer, female rogue. You can't make me.

David: That's fine, Patrick, you had some ideas?

Patrick: Yes, I've come up with a tragic romance for the ages centered around the Inquisitor having to kill of a bunch of elves or lose support with the nobility. Then in the end, she dumps you and decides she'd rather focus on her people. It's heartbreaking!

David: That is... an idea. Anyone else?

Luke: I'm thinking 'spunky.' Maybe--

Sheryl: *whispers* Funny and cute.

Luke: While being funny and cute. Only with depth.

David: I like depth, and lack of elven genocide. That's content all PCs should experience. I think Luke's got it.

I know you meant this as a joke, but now the idea of the first lesbian LI character being summed up as "LESBIAN???" on a whiteboard by straight men kind of scares me even more, lol.

Sheryl, Mary, Betty, Sylvia, Tonya, Jennifer (at first), and David.

The Dragon Age writers are not just a 'group of straight men.'

I'm not sure how it works.

You were attributing me saying something that Luke decided, when I think it might have come up when you and Luke were talking. I just don't recall saying what you said I said. Maybe I just forgot.

Fair enough. I'll leave you out of the discussion from now on.

I don't know it seems to me that society as a whole accepts lesbians more than gay men, that's how I see it anyway cause we are used to seeing girls be more affectionate with each other than men. You see girls who are best friends hold hands, walk arm and arm, hug etc but guys you don't see doing that, atleast that is what I have seen when I go out. So I could see Dorian being hesitant to start a relationship with a Male Inquisitor cause of what might happen, Sera on the other hand I could see being like oh screw it I'm going for it and if she says no oh well i'll move on lol.

Society tends to downplay female homosexuality by passing it off as "affectionate frienship" when it's not reducing it as "a phase".

Did you heard the shitstorm from The Last of us's DLC, when Ellie was confirmed as having romantic feelings for Riley ? I swear I've never witnessed so much denial, it was biblical.

No. Lesbians are not accepted more, they just happen to fit into objectifying male sexual fantasies more so than gay men, which, by the way, is not flattering or fun to experience anymore than the homophobia gay men face. It's still homophobia, except queer women get a nice coating of misogyny on top as well.

Patrick and Luke are the only straight guys on the writing team (for the companions and advisors). The rest are women (or gay, in Gaider's case).

I know David is gay, but are any of those women gay? Just wondering.

I hate the implication that only one type of person (based on sexual orientation) can adequately write a similar character.

Well, they certainly are the best suited to do it.

It depends on the character, which is more than just her or his sexuality.

That's not what I'm implying, I do however think it's worth noting.

No one actually said that only one type of person can though.

Patrick, for instance, thought he wrote a compelling lesbian character with Traynor's first pass, until he sought some feedback and learned "that's pretty much an after school special."  So perspective can help because it can be easy for me to imagine how some person deals with systemic issues but also not impossible for those imaginations to be inaccurate.

I don't think we really know Luke's sexuality, nor any of the writers except Gaider and Patrick.

Also, is it Luke or Lukas? I see it said both ways.

Of course, I think feedback from other people is essential. However, one's sexuality alone should not exclude her or him from writing a character of a different sexuality. That's what I (incorrectly) thought Ailith was saying.

If I knew, I wouldn't tell you.

Correct.

People think Mary is straight because she's married. Unless she states as much, I wouldn't make that assumption.

Also, is it Luke or Lukas? I see it said both ways.

Lukas, but we mostly call him Luke.

Because we're lazy English writers.

My apologies. I agree it's something to consider, but should not be criteria for excluding a writer from writing a particular character.

I am always cautious when straight men write queer women, this is not like I'm picking on Biowares writers specifically. That being said, my main concern with the Sera romance is more just that I wont enjoy her personality, and that wouldn't be any different if she were written by a queer woman but still had the same character traits. .

Okay, it was not my intention to gossip about the writers personal lives, so my bad for steering the discussion in that direction.

Bioware is miles ahead of pretty much every other gaming company as far as being inclusive to gender and sexual orientation, but the lack of a queer female voice among the writers does make me a little sad face, but ultimately it's not hugely important.

As far as Sera is concerned, it's just my own personal tastes in the kind of character she seems to be that is making me hesitant and worried, that's all.

Nothing about her character comes off as serious to me, so I was saying it seems doubtful she would go into any detail about it.

Also, what is it with Bioware and the sort of class clown archetype? I didn't like it with Alistair, I'm not really liking it with Sera. I dunno, I wanted to be right with Cassandra and now I really wanna be wrong, haha.

Gah Alistair, what an irritating man-child. Hopefully Sera will be actually bearable and nothing like well... him. She seems fun though, carefree and I reckon she'll get dark when she needs to. Should be interesting to see if this is so.

I hope the implication here isn't intended as males finding the thought and/or sight of two women being intimate with each other appealing as being misogynistic by default.
