Yeah. I don't usually judge people based on their religious beliefs but when you believe in a a religion that was clearly invented by a crappy sci-fi author whose central tenets are crappy sci-fi and who have been caught many times bullying and intimidating both people who have tried to leave and those who have tried to investigate...

yeah i saw clips on YT a few years back showing the horrible things they've done to people that were either within their belief system and those that tried to leave. it's one of the strangest "religions" i have ever researched.

Funny you should say that:

http://arstechnica.c...on-scientology/

One of the first things to pop up when googling Unitology. lol

Also Visualize in The Mentalist is clearly taking the p*ss out of Scientology...

All I can say is that they must have really good Kool Aid at a Scientology church. Though I hate to use words like church and religion when talking about Scientology.

I had to laugh when you rescue some scientists early on because when you burst into the room the woman exclaims "By the Maker!"

Worse. It's a pyramid scheme where they separate you from your family if they don't believe, steal your secrets in the name of improving your mental health and then and use them to stop you ever leaving. Lovely folk...

Cult is accurate. The thing that worries me is the fact that Scientology is really dangerous in a lot of ways. Any psychiatrist would tell you that.

You have to be really careful about how you deal with traumatic events in someones past. Because if not handled correctly, you can do more harm than good. The fact that one of the basics of Scientology is trying to get someone to consciously relive traumatic events in order to reach some higher state of spiritual enlightenment is playing with fire. Any normal human being can see that.  Not to mention the fact that Scientology teaches that humans where once immortal beings and through Scientology, you can regain your lost immortality.

Tom Cruise is banned from my home tv screen. He's a creepy guy who follows a creepy cult. I will not watch his movies.

Just read this recently. It's about the scary compound the cult keeps in California with their own private prison. People have been documented as having to flee this place. I wish the US would do what the Germans did and shut this baby down.

You don't get to see the more dangerous stuff until you're already very well sucked in. That's one of the reasons that the internet has been so bad for them. People get to find this crap out beforehand.

I don't think they qualify as a religion. Plus even if they did-they are not entitled to maintain a private prison of their own. The "hole" is illegal and should be shut down.

They are a cult, however much they try and tell you they are a religion.  Religions are (mostly) upfront with their followers and possible converts about what they stand for and what they believe in; cults typically have levels of initiation that take you to the higher levels of understanding of their true purpose, and leave you ignorant at lower levels.

Imagine if, say, Christianity (okay, mainly Catholicism I guess) kept the bit about confession back from everyone who hadn't reached "Every Sunday Lvl 3" - and you had to pay extra cash into the collection plate (and go to extra special secret meetings) to find out about it.  That's a cult.

Best bit about Hubbard is how a few years before he set up Scientology he wrote a book about how to make lots of money by setting up your own religion... hmm....
