lol you can say whatever you want, I'm not gonna read anything into it about your character or motivations. I just can't engage with it anymore. Criticism of characters, especially female ones, especially in ME fandom, got too out of hand and accelerated to the point where it's just not worth it to me to talk about anymore. But that's not your fault, you weren't even around then, so I'm not laying anything on you.

 

That's fair. I may not want Ashley on my team, but I'm mostly being tongue in cheek when I talk about her. She;s polarizing, which I think is the mark of a good character. I just play my Shepard as very "My way or the highway; I run this ship military, so fall in line."

it is kind of jarring to see hate for ashley in a thread for the person who is arguably the ashley of da:i....people hate her because she's from a less sophisticated background and thus doesn't always have the most sophisticated views on complex issues especially at first, abrasive, and doesn't kiss authority's ass, lmao. idk. luv that poetry quoting murder machine.

She questions my authority constantly! Whenever I talked to her it was like "Are you sure about this Shepard?" Yes I'm sure, just do as I say!

 

Also, that mistake got her sent to an another team who ended up dying alone on a tower when I blew up the place. So... no redemption for her.

Nah see. Cap you new to this. So I'm not necessarily pinpointing you. I started spite stanning Ashley because so many people hate her and i had no idea that was a thing until Tumblr like two years ago.

i love Ashley. I went back to play the game and i paid attention to her thoroughly that time around. What Adewale couldn't say to her in game, she said to her in my head canon but she never agreed with the ish Ashley was on in ME1. She understood why she was that way but she never excused it. ME2, everybody always points to Horizon. i won't spoil it for you Cap but whoever the Virmire survivor is...that meeting is important.

I always interpreted that as her being terrified of what Cerebus may have done to Shepard's mind. But when she talks to Shepard and finds out it's really her, she is even more terrified and worried because she didn't remember Shepard that way. And she did let her emotions get in the way of the facts. The Alliance has their thumbs up their ass while human colonies are being abducted. Shepard has always been about saving people...at least MY Shepard. So if Ashley would have been written differently, she would understand...Shepard is using the resources available to her...and it's killing her internally.

Then comes ME3...where the writer's still have her lingering in doubt and trying to explain the ME2 crap. ugh. but at least in that game, she chills out quicker than Kaidan...especially if you romanced him. Don't get me started on that creep.

haha, no! it's cool for you to not like her, and also, you're playing through it for the first time anyway. i always feel like on my first PT i end up forming opinions about characters that i later end up realizing are reductionist or unfair or informed by my ~emotions~ viewed through the lens of the character i'm playing. it just surprised me to see so much of that, not just from you, but from the thread in general, especially bcuz it's so similar to what people say about sera

I like Ashley, but main only because you can show her the error of her xenophobic ways and get her to change

does doing the 'right thing' matter if everyone is dead?  If the Krogans overrun the galaxy and kill all other races.. or if the Rachni do it? will you still be happy with your moral choice after all civilization is destroyed? Both pose a real threat of committing genocide of their own against other races......should you do the 'right thing' if it means risking massive death and destruction for humans and other races?

 

Personally...my answer is Yes, you should do the right thing.  They (Krogan and Rachni) deserve the chance to build a future, the threat of genocide is not justification to commit genocide or massive genetic control. However, the billions of lives that could be affected by your decision means you SHOULD consider ALL options, even the 'wrong' ones, before deciding and I can understand why some would choose what would be the Strategically 'Safe' options
