Or, indeed, seen or even heard of it!

There are so many fruits and veggies out there that most folks have never heard of.  It seems like that should be surprising, but it really shouldn't be.

I love roaming the grocery store. I never would have found lychees or pomegranates or star fruit or dragon fruit or persimmons if I didn't explore!

And these comments are why Dazzle is considered cultured and worldly. :P

Dazzle returns!

Man, buying fruit is crazy expensive. I had a weird craving for exotic fruit so I went and bought a passion fruit and a kiwano horned melon and together they were $8 CAD! Woah.

But the kiwano is super yummy.

It's almost like a lemon-lime pomegranate. You eat the flesh around the seeds. It's very tart but refreshing.

That sounds quite good.

Me neither! I had to look it up before I bought it so I knew what to look for in ripeness, haha.

Light will probably have a stroke and accuse me of eating disgusting things when he sees it. :P

Those like us that grew up in the UK would be forgiven, I think, for thinking that there is only one type of banana...

There's a place in town, quite a drive but a friend wanted to get me something special for my birthday, where they have really nice fried plantains. Which I guess is banana-esque

If you know the right people in the UK, you might know what a plantain is. I believe that they are a staple of West Indian cuisine, and we have a sizeable community of people with West Indian heritage. All the other various types of banana that I've seen in Mexico just don't make it here. Well, maybe you can get them in London for ridiculous prices...

If you look there are at least three types of banana in that photo; tiny yellow ones and orange/red ones as well as more "normal" sized yellow ones. That's just a random stall we stopped at by the side of the road once, near the coast in Veracruz.

Those pesky supermarkets, demanding standardised fruit, eh?  Means we get to miss out on lovely, lovely diversity.

I think it also has to do with what can easily be transported. There's a whole system that they use for the bananas we get that uses a particular gas to stop them ripening. It may well be that it doesn't work with all varieties...
