People kick up a lot of fuss about GM foods and that kind of thing, but if they knew what kind of weird yotz was done to keep allegedly fresh food "fresh" they'd lose their marbles entirely.

I think it also has to do with what can easily be transported. There's a whole system that they use for the bananas we get that uses a particular gas to stop them ripening. It may well be that it doesn't work with all varieties...

I find that gummified fruit travels and keeps very well.  I use this for all of my fruit needs.

Like with all things, balance is key.  GM food can help us create resilient food that can travel and help lessen world hunger....

but we also don't need children having chemical imbalances or development issues so that our strawberries can be extra super red...

just depends on whats done, why, and the side affects

There's a place in town, quite a drive but a friend wanted to get me something special for my birthday, where they have really nice fried plantains. Which I guess is banana-esque

Fried plantains are great. I typically coat sweet plantains and bananas in tempura batter, fry them and serve them on a plate. Just dust them with a bit of sugar right after you lay them on a paper towel to remove some of the oil. The sugar melt into a light syrup.

Some GM food is engineered precisely to fix dietary problems...

It seemed to be Rygel's favourite word.  Everything was "what the yotz!" and "by the yotz!" or just generally "yotz!"

It's a better word to actually say  than dren or frell, I find; those two have weaker consonants.

i think the problem with GM food isn't what it may or may not do. it lies in the element of choice. the secretiveness of what it is on a common level is my problem with it. When you're a kid, you're at the mercy of whatever your parents feed you. i would like to know what I'm giving my neices and nephews. We grew our food mostly while growing up and hardly ate fast food. so yeah that's my issue with it. i don't like not having a choice and especially where children are concerned.

GM foods can be a good thing. To me the real problem is the actions of companies like Monsanto and the fact that GMO food isn't labeled as such. Monstanto is the poster child for everything wrong with the gm food industry and every one has a right to know what they are eating.

I get that, there is no reason any of it needs to be hidden, that the consumer can't know what, how, and why things have been modified
