When I grew up I never got any anesthetic in dentist while drilling, ever. It wasn´t even an option back then.

Wow, scary...

It could very well have been her parents idea. Pain is something you can get used too. I know that when I have children, any sort of painkiller is only going to be used when it's absolutely necessary. My mum did it with me and now I have a very high pain threshold, which I am grateful for.

A very high pain threshold can get you into a boat load of trouble. I fractured the Radius bone in my forearm about 3/4th of the way through. Because It didn't hurt that much the next day, I went swimming. Not a good idea. I had no idea that it was fractured that bad. Tell it snapped shortly after I started swimming laps.

Drills cause huge amounts of pain. Anaesthesia isn't used because the dentist might screw up, it's there because this isn't the middle ages and why go through pain if you don't need to?

You get used to it too.  ;)

Because you learn to rely on medication to get you through pain. What happens if you didn't have access to medicine? You are really going to feel the pain.

What? How old are you? I'm 40 next month. I just asked my wife who is 46. Neither of us have heard of such a thing.

Ouch. Yeah, it's not always the best thing but I'm glad to have it.

I don't plan to ever be in that sort of situation. And if I am it's because there's some sort of global issue and I'll burn that bridge when it comes to it.

Haha! I recall sometimes the doc said to me, "breathe", as I was straight as a plank on the chair. Not breathing.

No, neither do I but I like to think I'm prepared for it should that day come around. Now all I need is to learn how to actually eat things that aren't so basic.
