Somehow, I imagine Sera subverting the idea of a bridal gown... I just don't quite know how.
I get what you mean. She would probably think she's too cool for that kind of thing. But we all know she would look gorgeous in one! ![]()

And... well, I should probably try to avoid speculating too much on her sexual tastes before we actually get to know her.

Well, maybe; I just don't want to be inaccurate.
Interestingly, if Sera was a virgin, it'd at least be a different personality type than all the other virginal characters we've seen... not that I really think she is. Then again, if she's not, we'll probably hear some allusion to previous encounters, as we've had for all other non-virgin LIs (although Merrill is sort of ambiguous).
i could see her wearing this
In Merrill's case, the issue was her potentially having human children with a male Hawke. If Hawke is female, then children were never going to happen to begin with, and the Dalish seem to choose their own partners anyway, unlike the city elves; there's no sign that gay Dalish would be looked down on for it.
So the issue of children was something that was important to Merrill only if you romanced her as a male.
Why prospect of having human children would be a bigger issue for her than prospect of having no children at all? Either way, it means no elven kids from her, and if elves are so fixated on reproduction, it should still be a big issue for her, worth mentioning in dialogue.
Unless she suddenly has different personality when you romance her as female, as I see it it kinda implies that she doesn't take relationship with a woman as seriously, and apparently she considers it as only a temporary thing - that she still has time to settle down "for real" and have "proper" family with elven boy and elven kids - that's why you don't get serious discussion with her about it when you romance her as female, while you get such discussion in case you're male.

I think it's the issue that elves and humans can only have human children, so she's sacrificing passing on her elven heritage, given that it's a possibility that Merrill could unexpectedly become pregnant during her romantic relationship with Hawke.

That's not my impression. Merrill genuinely loves Hawke in the romance, whether Malcolm and Leandra's child is a son or daughter; I think children simply come up with a male Hawke due to the possibility of children being a result as long as the two are romantically involved, while it wouldn't immediately come up with a female Hawke because neither one could accidentally become pregnant as a result of sex, and the two can simply adopt children when they are both ready.
Perhaps Sera and the Inquisitor might discuss this more explicitly, as I think one of the flaws in the relationship is that some of the issues that arise in the romance are simply relegated to the codex entry, like the controversy Hawke and Merrill face as an interracial couple.

I know...I wanted the angry neighbors to show up at Hawke's estate so Snarky!Hawke could tear them down ![]()
Hawke does become Champion shortly after that so I imagine most people wouldn't dare give them any trouble.
There's a bit about Sera in this fan synopsis of a SDCC interview with Patrick Weekes.
He talked about how a lot of people seem to think Sera is going to be very pro-Dalish and pro-elf but she’s going to be a bit more controversial than people think.
Kind of what I expected I know some aren't going to like that though.

I think the exaggerated stories about Hawke and all the death he's left in his wake would have logically dissuaded most people. After all, Charade talks about how she heard Hawke fought a High Dragon in Darktown, so who knows what the nobles in Hightown have heard.

Thanks for the link. I wonder what this means for Sera's view of the elves; I don't get the best feeling from that line. Between that and Solas not identifying as an elf, it seems the elven Inquisitor might be the only one who might identify with his elven heritage.

I'm curious how her view is controversial. I don't see her being 'anti-elf' or anything but maybe just 'not caring' is controversial to some.
I am getting the impression that most elves in Thedas don't care about their elven heritage. I think the exceptions would be Dalish Keepers/Firsts/hahrens. The average Dalish hunter probably doesn't identify much with it as they are more concerned with clan survival: hunting for food, fending off predators/bandits/humans, etc.

Hmm I'm very curious to know why an elf will not be pro-elf or rather not entirely so. I can't say that I find it all that surprising tbh that she will be controversial in that regard. I look forward to it personally.
Sera and IB are quickly becoming the new Timon and Pumbaa.
And that makes me happy. Hopefully we see lots of Sera/IB moments. ![]()

Fenris and Zevran weren't that focused on the elves, as the two were more focused on the tragedy in their past, so I wonder how Sera would stand out as controversial in comparison.

I think it's mostly an issue of our elven companions, rather than elves in general. Both the Dalish and the Alienage elves seem to have their own traditions and values tied to their cultural identity, and both generally care about being elven (albeit in their own way).

I had started a fic on that. The first chapter was fun, but real life got in the way of me writing more.
So, who are you going to romance now, Lob? I have a feeling you were disappointed your male Elf Inquisitor couldn't romance her. Truthfully, I expected her to be bi to satisfy every elven fan.

Yup, called it.
However, I don't believe she 'hates' elves; she simply doesn't give a flying gnome about her heritage. I can still see how that could be seen controversially by some, though.

I find this amusing as almost no one seems to think she'll be pro-Dalish, and most seem to believe she'll be pro-elf only to the extent that she cares about the common people and city elves are mostly commoners.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure of the sample size Patrick is basing his statement on, but at least around these parts, not many people seem to think that. In fact, I'd say most of us here have expressed pretty much the opposite idea.
I had started a fic on that. The first chapter was fun, but real life got in the way of me writing more.
Real life tends to get in the way of my writing as well; I'd actually like to get back to trying to write a novel, as writing is something of a passion of mine. I only wrote a bit a few months back (for fun) with Sir JK's elven roleplay thread, about a hypothetical Dales being independent of Orlais and dealing with Qunari, Andrasian, and Dalish elves trying to live together despite their cultural differences, although my contributions were short and quite infrequent (and the story has basically stopped a while back).
Are you thinking about continuing with it anytime soon? Did you put the story up anywhere? I'd like to see it, if you don't mind.

Admittedly, I was disappointed, as I thought an energetic and fun companion (based on that concept art a while back where she seems to tell a dirty joke) would be a nice contrast with my planned stoic elven Inquisitor.
I'm a bit surprised, as an elven male never seems to have an option to romance a female elven companion in Dragon Age. I'm not so sure I'll romance anyone with my elven Inquisitor. I don't see any of the Andrastian romance options having much in common with my Dalish mage, much less wanting the same kind of life together once the crisis with the Breach has been dealt with; there's also basic cultural and religious differences and the issue of children.
Sera can be a friend, at least; although I'm hoping that I'm wrong about the gut feeling I'm getting from that line about her being "controversial". What about you? I'm curious to hear your plans for your Inquisitor.

Well, I plan on playing a male human warrior who romances Cassandra in my first playthrough. I already knew that my first character would love her. I might either make this one Lawful Good or Snarky. I can't decide which one.
I also plan on playing a mage. Not sure who I'll romance with him. My mage playthroughs tend to be Aequitarian. Both Daylen Amell and Alim Surana were Irving's personal apprentice in my headcanon for my playthroughs, though Amell romanced Morrigan and was interested mainly in political power as Chancellor while Alim romanced Leliana and traveled with her, righting wrongs and hoping to find a peaceful way to reform the Circle.
I really wanted to play a male Inquisitor Dwarf who romances Sera with the hope of having fun with the race aspect of it. But, that isn't to be.
Josephine and Vivienne might both be worth a playthrough. I want to play a Dwarf at least once too.
