I think it's mostly an issue of our elven companions, rather than elves in general. Both the Dalish and the Alienage elves seem to have their own traditions and values tied to their cultural identity, and both generally care about being elven (albeit in their own way).

That's a good point.

I guess Sera left that behind at an early age or may even be an orphan.  I always felt extra bad about the elves that grew up in the Alienage's orphanage (like the one we see in DA:O).  Their options are going to be pretty limited and I'm sure most turn to crime when they get older...the city elf Warden seemed relatively well off compared to some others in the Alienage tbh.

Yep. So far IB and Blackwall, not sure about the others.

They might be the only ones lol.

Maybe Dorian?

So the issue of children was something that was important to Merrill only if you romanced her as a male.

Why prospect of having human children would be a bigger issue for her than prospect of having no children at all? Either way, it means no elven kids from her, and if elves are so fixated on reproduction, it should still be a big issue for her, worth mentioning in dialogue.

Unless she suddenly has different personality when you romance her as female, as I see it it kinda implies that she doesn't take relationship with a woman as seriously, and apparently she considers it as only a temporary thing - that she still has time to settle down "for real" and have "proper" family with elven boy and elven kids - that's why you don't get serious discussion with her about it when you romance her as female, while you get such discussion in case you're male.

I firmly disagree. Merrill's way too much of a romantic to consider a female Hawke just a passing thing; she gushes about how Hawke's amazing and beautiful, and later says that her love for Hawke is her pillar of certainty in an increasingly insane city. The issue isn't not having elven children, it's having human children.

I find this amusing as almost no one seems to think she'll be pro-Dalish, and most seem to believe she'll be pro-elf only to the extent that she cares about the common people and city elves are mostly commoners.

It would be interesting if she's everything Faerunner and Xil have worried about.

Horrifying, more like, since most of my paranoid rants about Sera have been at less lucid moments. I don't want to live in a world where I'm most correct when I'm at my most irrationally angry.

I do hope all of this is covered nicely in-game. Did Sera leave the elves as a kid? Was she even born among elves? How does she feel about the ongoing conflict with the Dales? And to what extent has her personality been shaped by her past, if at all?

That said, BioWare generally puts in enough exposition on character backgrounds so I'm not really worried, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hm, probably. How does Sera feels about mages though?

We'd better have someone who gives a damn about the elves on the team... and I'd prefer if it's someone I can romance, instead of Solas.

I don't know...there's no reason to think she doesn't like them, however.

She doesn't like the Fade or spirits.

Who knows... we might be able to 'Paragon' Sera into giving a damn. :P

Honestly, though, I'm indifferent on the issue, mostly because there isn't enough to go by at the moment. As of right now, I definitely get the feeling that Solas will be the 'loyal' type (and I use the word loosely), whereas Sera just won't care.

I don't think that Sera will have any issues with elves. The possibility of her not being very fond of humans is bigger.

Well, that's not the same thing.

Yeah, but magic and fade and spirits are related.

I'm not sure why she would have issues with humans considering she doesn't identify with the elven elements that would possibly be anti-human.

Sure, but there are mages who don't like the Fade or spirits.

Sera is anti-authority and most authority figures in Thedas are human, so she might as well dislike (some, if not many) humans.

The ones in authority who hold most of the wealth and power, sure.  This is a small portion of the human population though.

Statistically speaking, the average city elf is about as likely to meet someone with real authority as I am to meet a millionaire.

Dramatically speaking, someone with real authority is very likely to wander into your alienage and cut down your friend to join his knightly frat house, or disrupt a communal wedding so he can kidnap the women for his rape party.

I expect that not only has Sera interacted with human nobility, but she's done so when they're at their worst.*

*Watch me say this and it turns out that Sera was abandoned on the steps of a chantry and raised by a human Sister who was part of a noble Orlesian House.

I'm hoping she is pro elf in her viewpoints when questioned on such matters. I wouldn't hold it against Sera if she is not a big fan of Shemies, no doubt she has seen some horrific things and experienced such as a lowly city she-elf. I won't shed a tear if she had happened to cut down any obnoxious Noble who tried to push their weight around, I would like to see some vengeance actually.

I think she goes along with Dorian, since Sera/Dorian/Iron Bull form Team YOLO, according to the devs. :)

Edit: I also think it's very likely she'll go along with Blackwall, they both were in Team Vulgar along with Iron Bull.

It seems like she will be useful as long as she maintain's that the overall goal is the only thing that matters, But if she preachy about methods and aims then she can join Cole in the mass grave of ingrate/annoying followers.

It'd be bloody stupid after having too much of that attitude already.

That doesn't seem all that controversial to me.  I think Sera (as a city elf) being super pro-dalish would be more controversial.
