agreed personally i think he fits being a paranoid schizophrenic better ot possibly both disorders but im no psychologist and only have a minor interest in the field so i could be a quack XDAh.. totally missed that. I stand corrected then.
I still don't think he's a good representative of it. Bi-Polar isn't an identity crisis. But I think the tragic parts are good.

I saw the experience of mental illness more from Hawke's perspective. The helplessness as a friend. You can't do much to help, and in a way, he wants to die himself. Not just kill other people.
I don't think it was really meant to represent bi-polar disorder. I mean, not in any literal sense. Anders doesn't have any manic episodes.
I get it, and I can get where she's coming from, I know it was a personal thing for her, she said she put a lot of her past relationship into it, but I am married to someone with bipolar disorder and I get tired of that narrative about loving people with it always being about pain and helplessness while they fall apart. My husband is a very stable, healthy; awesome dude. He had his dark period but he learned and grew and took care of himself and honestly is more mentally stable than anyone I know. But it's not something people tend to expect because they are so used to the "crazy bipolar" thing, so I think her comments just hit a nerve there for me!

It all depends on the severity. I wouldn't take it too personally. Of course not everyone goes through that stress. It also boils down to finding the right meds, but sometimes, it takes years for anyone to find something that works. So in the meantime, it's bad for them.. and family.
I don't even know how to talk about this enough without getting too personal.. and I don't know who the hell reads this stuff. So I'll cut it short. lol

Yeah. Except in this world, you get thrown into mental hospitals for months, lose your future prospects, and have to medicate for life.

Frustrating as hell at the time. Because I smoked (and they cut me off). Also the psychologists (at least for awhile) were ridiculous. One used to kind of "baby talk" to me and just asked random bizarre questions.. like how often I jerked off at night. It was weird.
OTOH, I met the clone of Jean Claude Van Demme. That was how he introduced himself.. "Do I look like Jean Claude Van Demme?" And he did. He was worse off than I was, I think. He was in a full leg cast. His girlfriend dumped him and he purposely jumped in front of her car.. got run over. lol
Among other things.

why would the shrinks ask you that... thats personal... and if they cut me off my tobacco ill show them "crazy" no amount of sedatives would stop me....Frustrating as hell at the time. I don't know. That doctor probably deserved to be there more than me. I asked for a different one eventually.
When people acted up like you say, they strapped you down in a bed. Never happened to me though.

Sometimes they do ask questions about your sexual health because it's something that can change because of reasons such as issues with mental health. It's important to document things like that. The same thing could be said of why they ask you about your family or your childhood. Even if it doesn't seem important to you, it might be relevant and useful in helping.

He wasn't doing it for that reason.
He was just creepy. And purposely condescending for some reason. For example, he sort of "baby talked" to when he saw my mom brought some candy and left it at the table. He treated me like I was 5.. like asking what favorite color candies i liked and such. lol
I can't remember the details, but it was weird. Like he didn't even know how to talk to me at all.

i just view asking questions about my "polishing schedule" and how many trysts i have as personal (and im very open bout it most time they are jokes and light embelishments) when they are my "health"Sometimes they do ask questions about your sexual health because it's something that can change because of reasons such as issues with mental health.
