I have to admit that I like Sardaukar's idea, though. If two handers were more like (modern katana weilding) Highlander and less like the Kurgan I might like them more...

One thing that annoys me is the absence of the quarterstaff as a melee weapon. Those things are beastly. Look it up. It's interesting.

If I had a choice of melee, I'd turn the duelist into a one handed warrior class. No shield.

If it were my choice I'd replace the fairy dust shooting mage staves with mundane quaterstaffs or polearms, then completely decouple classes from weapons.

I always wanted a Minbari fighting pike from Babylon 5. It's basically a retractable quarterstaff...

I haven't seen a polearm in an RPG for... probably a decade.

Dues Ex and Dues Ex: Human Revolution deal with the subject very well. If you have not played them, I highly suggest you do so. Both deal with Transhumanism with Dues Ex: Human Revolution focusing on it more.

Never played that series but seen many draw comparisons with the Deus Ex ending to the ME3 one, ripping em off and such, I recall a youtube video about it and all. Also ME took sooooooo many ideas from Battlestar Galactica too.

Just become an insufferable hipster in order to deal with people not loving your favorite, like I have.

"Oh Sera? Of course you don't like her. You wouldn't get her."

"I like to play this obscure little race called dwarves. They're not for everyone, just people with more refined taste"

etc

DA as a series allows very little flexibility in terms of quest solution and character builds. I like the Fallout series for that. You can attack the enemy or sabotage/steal his stuff or convince him to go away/give up. There are many possibilities in character types too. DAO offered more of that with the herbalist, survival and poison skills (for example).

The Inquisitor doesn't come across as a very skilled individual themselves. Sure there are the knowledge perks, but it's not the same as knowing how to track prey (survival), how to make poisons or potions (herbalist), etc. They've got people to do that for them.

Funny because it's true.

Is there a meme about Cassandra being terrible at aggro control? Because I'm finding this hard to parse otherwise.

Nah, it was all Varric's fault.. for doing that melee flip move.. when he's an archer.

I am kind of hoping the next game in the series will not be set in the Inquisition and allow us to build a character from the ground up or better put: start at rock bottom in society and move up the chain. This current game is great but once you win over Cass and get the organization rolling you pretty much have a lot of weight at your back.

If it's Tevinter, that seems probable.

I'm already kind of jaded with DA...and DAI seems like a decent enough bookend to leave off with.

but being an elf in Tevinter might win me over.

also been playing multiplayer...think i've fallen in love with the Necromancer and her ornery ass nature lol. Still ship her and the Reaver though they clearly don't get along. And...when did they give them names? That was pretty cool.

Been playing it with a month now myself, love all the mages, special appreciation also for the cheesey goodness which is Cillian, makes Perilous easy bwahaha.

In other news I traded in a few PS3 games yesterday and bought 2 PS4 ones for a steal. Happily loving Lara Croft again in all her next gen glory, SAAAAAAAAAAAM!

There's been some suggestion in recent comments (Weekes? Or was it Gaider?) that they were done with South Ferelden and that the series would move north so Tevinter is a possibility. I'd welcome that and then you could possibly bring back Bull, Sera, and Dorian but I'd leave Varric and the rest out of it.

The only sad thing about that is it'd never be the focused City Elf game I'd want. What I have built up in my head is something like the Thief series. Which isn't gonna happen.

All of them are romance options, so I'd say the chances of that are low. Especially since Iron Bull won't be going back up north if he's Tal-Vashoth.

They are very similar in their execution in terms of boiling the whole game down to a simple choice between options that you woudn't necessarily have chosen, but I doubt that one ripped the other off, as they came out within a year of each other and so were were in development concurrently. By the time Deus Ex:HR came out ME3 was in the final run-in to completion.

I often think that if you cross Babylon 5 with Battlestar Galactica, you get Mass Effect.

From BSG you have:

  • Synthetic vs organic intelligence and is there really a difference?
  • The Quarians/Geth are basically the 12 colonies/cylons from BSG.
  • Cycles repeating themselves.

From B5 You have:

  • Earth as the newcomer in a galaxy of established civilisations with better tech.
  • A big space station in neutral space that is a centre for diplomacy, but also has a civilian population and criminal underworld.
  • Ancient civilisations messing with the development of newer ones.
  • Protagonist gets a small advanced spaceship which is the result of a merger of the technologies of two races

And probably more which I can't think of right now.

I agree on Bull but the other two could feature and not be romance options (given Leliana is not in this game as an RO). Dorian has some things to do in Tevinter, remember?

Aye, I could see some of them making a return (with the obligatory BS about why they left the Inquisitor, if they were romanced). Tevinter would be nice to move to. I'm getting sick of all the mage hate.

You'd still get the mage hate, if they went North. With Tevinter, you're bound to deal with a big Qunari storyline too. Tevinter vs Qunari is Mage/Templar all over again.. except in it's ugliest most extreme form.

Sera has nothing to do with anything in Tevinter. Dorian might, but doesn't he stay behind if romanced? I'd find Maevaris more interesting anyway.

Also, it seems probable that we'll have to side with Tevinter, because the qunari are enemies to all of Thedas. So that should be fun.

I don't even know anymore. It seems like they actually want people to like Qunari now.. making them a bit more palpable.

A full-scale Qunari invasion definitely seems likely at some point. It will be interesting to see what context they invent to precipitate it, should it happen.
