Same..I have the 'new' x-com with all DLC..and no bug at all....
While I liked the x-com..well the new one..with 3D and Mech and stuff..it will never beat the old one . Now that one was scary and tension filled.....
and remember those Chrysallid? OMG! One alone..could wipe ya whole Party !!
Oh, the original... I saw OpenXCOM in action once. That was BRUTAL.
And, yeah. OpenXCOM is a remake of the old one. Made by community, I think, so I dare say most of the changes involve getting the game to run without a problem on modern PCs.
I remember old Duke Nukem or something needed special old sound cards to run it when I played it once, YEAAARS ago.
Yeah the Game start with the Alien who have a Bigger advantage....so in the beginning..God ya gonna die alot....But it was a bigger game . And ya could enter houses...and it was filled with more suspence . As well as they made 3 more ...one underwater and one more . So while the new x-com is Good...it will never be as good as the old one..but at least they kept the whole 'pew pew Alien' stuff intact....
I just wish..they filled it with more tension like the old one...ya know..when it is alien Turn ya totally Blind!! Ohhh I did like those cerbrus like Guys though..now that was a nice addition .
Hah, try Long War. It's also pretty brutal.
I have a good challenge on Normal without Ironman. I don't save scum, though, so technically I am playing Ironman.
Ironman Impossible has to be a whole lot more brutal than it looks from the videos...
Those chryssalid..were a Nightmare !! The big dog like one were a nightmare on any Tank ya bring . The chryssalid..ya absolutly need the flying armor so they dont contaminate anyone...cose they had too much movement...
the most fun part is when ya get the tool to controle an alien..OMG! and they start shooting each other...
Revenge ! YEAH TAKe tHAT!
'Lids can still murder your entire squad if you're not careful. Admittably, it's a bit easier than 1998 XCOM from what I hear.
Damn, all this talk of X-Com makes me want to play it. Cyah guys n gals, will be back later ok.
Woooo... I might have to try the old one. I'd actually invite you for an MP match, but, uh... LW doesn't support MP.
Nobody I knew had it wanted to play it before I installed LW...
Also, my second SHIV just finished building. I need a good name... Normandy? No... Champion? Bah... Oh, I know! Mako!... no, wait. I'll save Mako for an Alloy SHIV. Or I can just name it Mako, build an Alloy SHIV later, and headcanon they just upgraded the old one.

What I'm saying is it was just a human-ish armoured figure. I guess they were probably supposed to be men but there's no way you could say what sex the soldiers were either way, especially as they only had surnames and ranks.

The problem with those chryssalid..is that anyone they touch become a zombie...who can cantamine anyone before a new chryssalid come out of it . And their movements....they could walk long distance.....I remember once..we landed..and one chryssalid was close.....I played one TURN! Got the Tank Out to scout..and the chryssalid entered my vessel...and everyone was a Goner ! LOL The soldier panicked..and those who couldnt move started shooting everyone due to lack of space....Throw a rocket..and Badaboum ! massive critical failure !

Sounds like an accurate description of EU2012's 'Lid abilities...
I'll just guess they toned the abilities down a tiny bit, so they stay with the same lore, but a bit more... gameplay friendly, I guess.

and unlike the new x-com..there were no Super Power later . And no 'Surprise shot if anyone get close' ....the AI was goddamn ruthless....ya could hide and they kill all civilians..or ya could chase them down...(and they are all Hiding!) unlike in the new mass effect where they just stand there pew pewing from a distance . In the Old x-com..ya had to find THem! and they kept killing civilians...more dead civilian = less score...God that Sucked so bad.....I could never save anyone LOL and just throw rocket around Blindly!

well if ya want a challenge and a Long Game..and the old x-com is really well done with the atmosphere and the feel.....then go for the old one .
If ya want a breeze and nostalgia filled game..with some Story...go for the new One .

Oh, Close Combat Specialist aka CCS?
Yeah, that's a very nasty skill.
I keep seeing that thing wiping out EXALT like there's no tomorrow...
A tiny bit less effective againist X-Ray's though. Even if Zombies and 'Lids are... VERY... vulnerable to it. I mean, they have to run up to you. But before they can attack... BAM, CCS, BUCKSHOT IN YOUR ALIEN BRAIN, GOOD NIGHT

No...there is no close combat in old x-com . In the new one , ya had 'movement shot' as in if an ennemy get too close..they shoot ((and can miss) . But thats it...no getting a knife from ya Boot to gut the fish ! None of that . Ya had weapon...rocket..and grenades .

You mean Overwatch?
That's in the new one, too.
I'm building a couple Overwatch Infantries in LW right now.
They're very powerfull. They can shoot three times under the right condition (regular shot, then go into Overwatch, which has two shots with full Aim and chance to Crit with the right skills, and use a Flush on a Gunner, boom, THREE SHOTS, EVERYTHING'S DEAD)
I need some Tank Assaults though. I'm just afraid I won't get tanks better than SHIVs until I get Carapace armor. By which time, I'll have Alloy SHIVs. And when those are surpassed, bam, MECs roll in to be even better tanks...

You had opportunity fire, no? If you left your soldier with enough action points at the end of a a turn, you could shoot an enemy first if they came into view...

Sounds like Overwatch to me.
Also, with Covering Fire, it triggers when an enemy tries to fire, in addition to them moving.
So, in the end, a full Master Sergeant Overwatch Infantry (Infantry is one of the eight classes in Long War mod, btw) can shoot TWICE on Overwatch, without Aim penalties (or loss of Crit chance) and will trigger their overwatch on BOTH enemy movement and firing.
They can also reload without ending the turn, suppress the enemy, and generally just be putting a lot of lead (or lasers, or Gauss rounds, or plasma, depending on your weapon tech level, aye) down range.

I remember overwatch... a vital safety tactic! Leave a few action points at the end to avoid having anyone just stand there and watch an alien stroll up and eviscerate them with lasers.

Yeah. And in Long War, if properly specced, it actually becomes a viable offensive strategy, too.
Just shoot once with your OW Infantry, then go into Overwatch (did I mention Infantry's base ability is to shoot twice per turn?) and Flush a target with another trooper for your two penalty-free OW shots. Three shots a turn, that's how the Infantry roll!
Sadly, one of my Infantry girls has such a low mobility...
And Walker Servos are nowhere to be seen. I don't actually know the requirement to get them. And I think they may be restricted to Powered Armors, while I'm still at Kevlar.

Samus was a girl. It's probably safest to assume anyone in power armour is a girl.
