Some things need venomous satire.

It's stop becoming funny when people start seriously entertaining war. There's a particular brand of conservativism that used to be relegated to militias and fringe groups.. but now a lot of mainstream people start daydreaming about insane scenarios out of the Turner diaries. There' aare actually suburban families stockpiling weapons and food supplies now. When that used to only be some lunatic in the middle of Montana.

So tonight Solvi should arrive in Skyhold. I wonder how long it will take her to overcome that "Greatly Disapproves" from Sera for allying with the Templars and start a romance. She's had plenty of smaller approval boosts in the positive direction, so I'm pretty sure that she's still net positive...

I was skimming and might have taken that a bit out of context, but what I was getting at is that satire is supposed to be about making points, not scoring cheap laughs. If people are spouting stupidity as political ideology it needs to be brought down with satire.

Fair enough.

I just think if it gets any worse, it'll spin out of control. People need more reasons to come together and enjoy life, instead of this 50/50 split happening in the country.

I actually have several firearms and a stockpile of food. It's not crazy to prepare for things that could happen. Whether it's environmental disaster, financial collapse( unlikely, but you never know ) and about a million other things that could easily **** our way of life up. Yet I'm a very logical person capable of critical thinking so, no it's not for crazy people.

I allied with the mages and got a Greatly Disapproves, and that was canceled out very quickly. If you choose the "because it's right" option when taking the role of Inquisitor, that's a Greatly Approves right there. I maxed out her approval well before the game was done. Similarly with Cassandra, I got Greatly Disapproves twice, and was able to max her out as well. I guess it helps that her personal quests are littered with massive approval boosts.

Flirting with Scout Harding also gets you some approval boosts from Sera. Of course, you have to be uninvolved for a while longer so you don't lock out the flirt dialogue.

As long as you're not doing it for the Coming Race War or Fema Death Camps coming to get you, it can be put in a rational light. I guess.

I don't know. Sometimes when I give the credit of rationalitiy to people, they disappoint me too. One of my closest friends started shouting racial epiphets the night Obama was elected. I never saw that from him before. I was pretty close to beating him down in front of his own kids.

But now I just stay away from people. It's worked out alright.

Oh I managed to max out her approval with Tressa my elf, so I have no fears of not being able to trigger the romance at all. I was just wondering how long it would take. I'd forgotten about that big boost you can get on becoming Inquisitor, though.

I recruited her pretty early, which helps a lot. I only did some of the basic quests in the Hinterlands (dealing with mages and Templars, ram meat etc.) then left for Val Royeaux, then continued with her in my party. Helping people there gained approval as well, like that elf woman in the outskirts whose husband was killed, recruiting agents, etc..

Oh, ok I see what your saying. Yeah, that's no good. I'm not racist, FEMA prison camps are fake and the lizard people aren't coming for us etc. Haha, no I promise I'm not crazy. And my only real character flaw is my dislike of religion( all religions except Buddhism ).

Yup yup. Done all that. I even dropped her from the party temporarily while using Vivienne to recruit that mage in the Hinterlands, just to avoid a "slightly disapproves". Ah, metagaming... ;)

Hah, I forgot about that one. I stopped bothering switching characters out though, partly because I just haven't kept track of which side quests have "divine" approval/disapproval. I just dealt with the slightly disapproves and watched the "approves" and "greatly approves" roll in.

Discounting the fact that it's actually a federation of states, from an outsider's point of view it can look as though the US is actually three* different countries glued together: The west coast, the north-east and the rest. Does it feel that way living there?

*maybe four if you count Utah, and of course there's also Alaska and Hawaii...

Yeah, kind of.

Texas kind of prides itself on just being it's own country though. Some people still entertain the idea of secession here. Even the seal on the floor of the state capitol building has "Republic of Texas" on it.

Technically, it really could be self-sufficient too. East and West US have seperate power grids, but Texas runs on it's own. It's also oil rich, crop rich, cattle rich, etc..

Well they already seceded from Mexico once, so I guess there's a precedent...

Yeah, we even have our own "national" legend. lol. "The Alamo". Other states don't have that exactly.

Even you, way off in the UK, knows about the Alamo. Random Russian citizens know about it.

I don't live very far from it. Even puked in front of it.

Well I know about Texan history a little more than I used to because my wife's Mexican and a historian by training. Of course I'd heard of the Alamo even before meeting her, but I know more about it all now. I'm sure most Brits don't realise how much of the US used to be part of Mexico, despite all the Spanish place names...

You would be surprised how many Americans are unaware of this as well.

Well... Actually I work at a university, but not for a university. The IT company I work for has an office in the "science park" of the University of York. It's an international company now but the British part was originally founded by York graduates. My wife works for the uni, but she got sick of being an academic and these days she works in admin. I guess in a similar but higher up the food chain role to Dazzle.
