So, then what's the solution? Do we create a thread in the Lobby for all the Sera regulars to be off-topic forever and check back in here when new content is posted? 

 

I mean, the thread would atrophy, but people requiring Sera content would probably be happy...

 

Oh, I'm not saying that I think it is a problem that needs to be dealt with. We've all had to do it at one point or another, whether here on the BSN, another forum or even in real life. Stumble into a new group of people say, at work who have all their relationships, who talk about random stuff that the new person wouldn't know about. Eventually, you just have to take the plunge and get involved. It's scary though.

Stumble into a new group of people say, at work who have all their relationships, who talk about random stuff that the new person wouldn't know about. Eventually, you just have to take the plunge and get involved. It's scary though.

 

That's how I ended up here. Came in to ask a question, came back later to whine/get clarity on Sera, ended up staying because people were awesome. But I lurked a whole hell of a lot the first few days.

Its the eternal problem of discussion boards. How much do you compartmentalise and then how much do you enforce what is "off-topic". There's no one correct way of doing things because there's no one size fits all human being. Whatever moderation stance you take, someone won't like it. You can never please everyone.

I almost think that the front page might need to be revised then. Almost make it like a Sera's Tavern Thread - Come in an Chat About Sera and Other Pointless Topics! Make it obvious that while we do talk about Sera when she's brought up, we also talk lots of other nonsense?

Well, the only people we answer to are the mods, that's it. Given the fact that every character thread works the same as this one, the mods clearly do not have an issue with it. Also, we are quick to let people know that if they do post something about the character, we will talk to them about it. If they choose not to do so, it's completely on them. I'm not going to sit here and continue to justify myself to someone that I frankly don't have to. People that post "oh this thread is too off topic" posts are trying to be a back seat mods or simply looking to troll or be overly negative.

I'd be happy with that, but the thread-starter isn't a thread regular any more, and hasn't been since I've been here, really. Is anyone in contact with her?

I've been to boards where there's strict rules on keeping on topic.

 

It sucks. I think it's good to know what the main topic is, but to expect nothing else? It's almost kind of insane. Like literally.

That's the key. Well them and whoever at BioWare is in charge of telling them what to do. If they chose to clamp down on OT in these threads, we'd have to put up with it or go elsewhere. It's their site in the end.

I love new people too, but I don't want to feel like we may be driving away new people who are too intimidated by us to post about Sera.
